DEDICA TIOIV ECEMBER 5 . . . the Robins whipped Excelsior for the first Lake victory . . . the night was climaxed by a dance in the old gym . . . the usual Saturday night festivities with the gang . . . Sunday . . . a beautiful December morning . . . church . . . Sun- day dinner . . . the happy meeting with the fellows . . . then . . . suddenly . . . WAR . . . listening to the reports of defeat on all sides . . . the beautiful morn became a cold, drab, drizzly afternoon . . . everything took on a ghastly pallor . . . even Nature realized the crisis . . . it HAD happened to us . . . December 7 . . . a date of infamy . . . December 8 . . . a day of noble reaction . . . the Pres- identIs speech . . . the challenge answered promptly by a declara- tion of war . . . . everywhere . . . . inevitably the talk turned to WAR . . . at first big, black bold face . . . then as further reports were received they became letters of blood red . . . the daysI events left their impressions on students and teachers alike . . some fought the battles in their minds .. . . others on maps . . . then the contae ' gious desire to serve . . . should I enlist now? . . . perhaps I had better wait until I graduate . . . should I leave my position as teache . er? . . . can I help more in the service? . . . what of the years of training I have gone through? . . . Yes, we all had and have those decisions to make . . . easy where duty is clear . . . difficult where choice of service is necessary . . . To the men and boys of Robbins- dale High who are serving in the armed forces of the United States . . . To the men and boys who will leave to fight in their country's biggest battle we dedicate this yearbook . . . . the 1942 ROBIN. -TED LANCE
