Mielke and Fisk, principals. Mt. Fisk controls junior high school activities, while Mr. Mielke arranges the senior high program. Mr. Cooper acts in the roleof adviser and mediator. 2. During the summer all thoughts of school are banished from the students' minds. While they are swimming, golfing, and playing tennis, the silent school is being reconditioned for another year. Painters, carpenters, and janitors brighten up the classrooms in preparation for school in the fall. 3. The back to school movement brings with it an endless procession of books and teachers. There is comradeship, too, meetings with old friends, something to while away days which have lately become long. Daily classes settle into a routine broken only by pep fests and football games. 4. Winter brings icy sidewalks and frost-bitten noses, but who thinks of it that way when a brisk hike is in the oiling? What can compare with the frigid tang of crisp air on a snowy morning? This is the season when work is heaped high but play is never forgotten. 5. In the spring, student fancy turns to thoughts of final exams. the Prom, and the Cotton Ball. Saying goodbye to classmates for three months of grand vacation is difficult. However, amid the excitement of graduation and while walking in the joyous daze which chirping robins and green buds never fail to bring, these unhappy thoughts fade into the background. ,3 i.- g E l FOREIGN LANGUAGES The ambitious students in the French and German classes are always on hand to put some puzzled student straight on a foreign word or pronunciation. hThe Little Tailor and Baron Munchaussen are tales inter- preted by the foreign language students, and are familiar ligures to the devotees of continental speech. These legends provide hours of amusement and relieve the monotony of pronouns and genders. Under the guidance of Miss Mildred King, the language stu- dents have added to their English vocabulary the vernacular of other countries. a d. leff f0 righteMiss Christianson, Mr. Frost, Miss BIelieske. dingeMiss Mathis. LIBRARY In Miss Patterson's up to-date library, everything from a book on Shake- speare's works to informa- tion on Shenandoah Dam can be' had for the asking. Besides learning an ap- preciation of all things beautiful, the art classes, under the supervision of Miss Emily Katter, assist in the preparation of stage settings and aid advertising committees with their works of art. OFFICE ASSISTANTS You don't need three guesses for the familiar phrases of the Misses McPherson and Ra- guet, ofhce assistants: uAll requisitions must be in on Tuesday. SCIENCE In this modern world science is the hub of all activity. The realm of science has reached every held, and offers opportunity for all types of students. Laboratory work appeals to some. while others flnd pleasure in working tricky problems in weights and measures while completing their academic work. The depicted students are carrying out the process of distilling and collecting rare gases in the chemistry lab. l Science and Mamemafics Teachers Mr. Dale, Miss Skoglund, Mr. Hag- emeisfer. Mr. Woodward, Miss Thofe, Miss Sneed. MATHEMATICS The functions of the hypotenuse may not be too clear to future ac- countants and book- keepers, but sometimes a demonstration prob- lem will clear up the difficulty. HOM E ECONOMICS Model housewives of the various home economics classes are taught how to avoid burned hands and pricked fmgers under the direction of the Misses Mabel Reed, Ruth Norby, and Inga Johnson. The girls learn to sew, cook, knit, and style their own cloth- ing in addition to practicing the management and care of the home. Model garments, as well as sample patches and dams are fre- quently displayed. The girls cook dinners to Which guests are invited and receive practical training in preparing refreshments for teas and other sociai functions. Misses Norby, Reed and John- son. INDUSTRIAL ARTS As industrial arts teachers, Messieurs Bannister. John- son, and Slzer prepare students for a lee as draftsmen. architects, and contractors. Messieurs Ban- nis'rer, Johnson and Sizer. COM MERCIAL e Future secretaries, stenog- raphers, and business men and women are prepared for their careers by Miss Lillias Davis and Miss Sophie Cheskie. In addition to the regular sub- jects, salesmanship has been added to the group of com- mercial courses for seniors. Af work in Hue duplicafing room. PHYSICAL EDUCATION HHealth and physical fitness go hand in hand: to be healthy. one must be physically flt, say the physical education instructors. Under the auspices of Miss Valborg Skartvedt and Walter HRed,' Sochacki, the youthful stu- dents learn the fundamentals of the various sports. Rules, regulations. and playing strategy are also taught. Football, basketball, wrestling, boxing, base- ball, and volley ball are delved into by the boys, While the girls play tether, hand ball, basketball, badminton, tennis. and baseball. Through these mediums the students learn the ethics and opera- tions of competitive athletics. JUNIORS Large numbers could account for it, many class leaders emphasize it, unusual talent proves it, but only knowing each junior individ- ually could convince an observer that the class of 1942 is ready and able to take the reins from the seniors and assume their positions as leaders. Claude Clasen, president, directed activities for the annual junior- senior prom at which the juniors were hosts. Room 203 eGroup U Row l-M. Berfhiaume. M. Ebner. I. Krieger. Mr. Ward. M. Hain, M. FOOTBALL Hail to the Lake Conference Football Champions of 1940! These grid warriors are the flrst in Robin history to win the coveted crown. Being in the title race only two years and winning this award is a very fIne record. The season6s highlight was centered on two promising sopho- mores, Arnold Trombley, who ran 65 yards to score against Hop- ' ' kins, and Joe Elsen, who booted the extra point to give the Robins a tie'and virtually put them into the title berth. BEES Achieving the best record a '6B squad football team in Robbinsdale ever produced, the Robin Bees battled to the season's finale with an unblemished record of fIve wins, two ties, and no defeats. HRed Sochacki's nghting cagers won seven of their games, and ended the scheduled season secure in second place. Playing nery ball in the opening games, the locals copped one non-conference win and two conference games to begin the season With three straight wins. The defeated teams were Eden Prairie, Wayzata, and Park. After dropping a non-conference tilt at Vir- ginia, the Sochacki-men lost a heart breaker to Hopkins in an overtime period 33-31. The Robins, paced by Klemm, then won nve straight games to secure the second place bracket. Two losses, one each to Park and Hopkins, knocked the home championship hopes into ashes. The team entered the sub-district contest, but was eliminated by Mound. Robbinsdale's umighty mites, better known as the uB Squad, concluded a successful season, losing only two games. Meeting twice a week on the range, the members have ample opportunity to improve their shooting eye. Mr. Perry Johnsonhs rihemen competed nationally in the Junior Club Team Matches. Outstanding among the pres- ent sharpshooters are Ray Dunn, Russell Stanislawski, and Allan MacDonald. QZ-rdmmwf Three state champs, two runners-up and team titles in state and regional meets were the triumphs scored by Mark Woodward's 1941 matmen. The Robin grapplers took all their contests and were undefeated in twelve starts. Entering the Regional, the locals were closely contested by a strong Park squad, but they outpointed their traditional rivals by a comfortable margin, sending ten men into the state competition. Five local wrestlers survived the semi-fmals and were slated for the state finals. Bob Humphrey, Don Rooney, and Captain Ralph Howe outpointed their opponents to gain the berths of State Champs. while John Kuch and Bob Foell were beaten and took the runner-up positions. By virtue of these wins the Purple and Gold tied for the State trophy with Minneapolis Vocational and Wayzata. Much credit is due Coach Woodward, who, for the second consecutive year, has coached his boys into the title position. Last year, his first season here at Robbinsdale, his matmen were co-champions of Minnesota with Minneapolis Marshall. With their banner titled 'iThe Robin Boosters the team again retained the coveted Northwest A A U trophy. High scorers for the Robins were John Kuch and Ralph Howe who managed to take first places in their divisions. Other members who contributed to the team score were Bill Reichert and Don Busch of the class of 1940, and Don Rooney, Virgil Heise, and Bob Humphrey. mtO: 2-?41hn WRESTLING Team l-D. Obinger, J. Their class With a heavilyr favored Roosevelt team, early in the season, was the most thrilling game of the year with the under-dog Robins coming out on top, 4-3. BOXING Pictured are the defending champions of the 1941 season who returned again this year to defend their titles against a host of challengers. Under the able leadership of Mr. Jens Dale, the home team compiled an impressive record. Stellar third baseman, John Hayek, was elected captain by his team mates. Roddy, Levine, Trombley, and Elsen composed the nucleus of the 1941 team. TRACK Robbinsdale's new and untried track team this year came through with the usual undaunted and unconquerable spirit characteristic of all Robin sportsmen.
