gzftln ml Szxllz On September 6 1948 twenty-eight ambxtxous boys and gxrls pxcked what they thought would be their favorzte seats 1n the crowded fifth and sixth room Mrs. Rulla was in charge of the room this year Just what all the chxldren were thinking doesn t matter much but some of the things they did dunng the nine months are things they will remember for a long time None of the group w1l1 ever forget our bzg ass1gnments and how necessary xt seemed to Mrs Rulla that all of them carne in punctually and well done They ll also remember how hard it was to get an A or a B as a slx weeks grade There were several cztxzenshzp health scholarshlp and social lwing contests to motlvate mterest Thxs year however, hasn t been all work Interest mn takmg part an sports and backmg the school m a good sportsman lxke way has been stressed Baseball, softball basketball volleyball and occaszonally other games were played Some of our boys entered thexr fzrst mterschool competitxon thls year The hfth and sixth graders were xnterested m musxc, too Some of them took mam muslcal parts UI the Christrnas Operetta and the room also presented a short musical pan tomune for the February P T A meeting The Future Riverview C1t1zensh1p Club has been a valuable activity Many decxslons have been made which have helped to settle problems m the room Every month has had nts unportant event ln September the students vlslted the f1re station ln Beatrlce, in October there was a Halloween party ln November four Red Cross boxes were packed, xn December a Christmas glft exchange took place 1n January the fifth and sixth graders helped conduct the March of Dunes Campaxgn, ln February our Valentlne party and P T A program took up some extra t1me, 1n March a kxte flyxng contest IS to be held, in Aprzl our Easter party w11l take place and we w1ll wlnd up the year w1th a tea for the mothers 1n May This year has been a year full of act1v1ty There have been plenty of funny mcxdents to remember For mstance Kenton would get provoked because hms curls msxsted on bemg curly Clarence became Dr I. Q , Lawerence Eckel became our glarnour boy Rxchard Cullen was a permanent flxture from 8 45 to 4 00 Duck Wolf was the all star of the room Tommy became Clair, Merle was the outstandmg cxtrzen Jeamne was our songbxrd Rosetta was seen but seldom heard, Elame becarne girl sport, and Dorothy was the mam mascuhne xnterest Lyle Wyhe jomed us m October and Jerry Wxese left for Wyommg in February euentfn and gzglztlz Twenty pupils were enrolled m the seventh and eighth grade room thxs year Twelve were xn the exghth grade and exght ln the seventh grade Durmg the school term Shirley Trunmer Cec1l1a and Eileen Wxese moved from the dlstrxct At the beginnmg of the year a cxtizenshxp club was organxzed Its purpose was to pro mote friendly relatxonshxps and happier socxal lzvmg fn the room In addxtxon to regular school work several actwxtxes have been carrxed out These In cluded Halloween Christmas and Valentme partxes ln November our room presented a one act play Waztmg For the Doctor to the P T A meeting At Chnstznas each pupxl was represented xn an operetta Hexgh Ho Holly The seventh and eighth grade room has been very active 111 athletxcs during the past year The girls have a softball tearn and a volleyball team Although they haven t competed agamst other schools they have enjoyed playing against the hugh school The boys have been actwe tn basketball and baseball Gerald Phxlxppx Jaclue Evans and Rex Ekwall all played on the second team and on the Jumor l-hgh team xn basketball Actzvxtxes planned for thxs spring are the Juxuor I-hgh Tournaxnent at Blue Sprmgs a Spring Concert a Mothers tea and a sight seexng trap On the whole the room has enjoyed a very fxne spxrxt of co operation and has had prohtable school year 18 C C .. . . 9 9 . . . . . . . - . , ' 9 . . . . . . . . - 9 . . egmnera, ual an econ There are twenty s1x pupxls enrolled rn the pnmary room There are ten chlldren the f1rst grade ten m the second grade and s1x begznners The ch1ldren ln the room took part ln the November P T A program by smgmg and dramatlzmg several nursery rhyme songs All the pupxls also had a part 1n the presentation of the Chnstmas operetta Hexgh Ho Holly A good cltxzenshzp chart has held the mterest of the chrldren smce the begrnmng of the school year Sxx poznts of good school cltlzenshrp have been emphas1zed They are bulldmg good health habits belng qu1et m the scnoolroom and corrxdors, usmg good manners at lunch txme gettmg along well with others takmg care of one s own property and takmg care of school property Scxence books were added thxs year They have provxded much mterestzng and worth whlle readmg materlal The group has become mcreasmgly aware of the world outside the school A Halloween party a Chrlstmas party and a Valentlne party were held th1s year The prunary room w1shes everyone a happy vacat1on and a profxtable and enjoyable new school year ar an our!
