ly L -W , CLASS PROPHECY As the nurse, JEAN PARKER, showed me into the doctor's oflice, I couldn't help but wonder if I would be here if I hadn't entered the advertising business. Due to the extreme tension of the business, I had developed the habit of talking in slogans, and I had reluctantly come to the psychiatrist to rid myself of this mania. DR. HUSTON will be back shortly, the nurse said. Ever since the Democrats got back into the White House he's been helping President HOWELL and Vice-President LOHR with their problems. The 'phone bills are terriic. Just make yourself comfortableg there's the couch. Not trusting myself to answer, I nodded, and as soon as she left the room I went over to the files which I had noticed weren't locked. Wondering if anyone had any odder psychoses than I did, I became con- vinced that they did when I saw the names of the doctor's patients. They were all members of the June graduating class of 1954 of Riverside High School. At least they all have jobs good enough to pay doctor bills, I thought. I felt ashamed of myself because I hadn't kept-in touch with any of my former classmates except BOB HERRON, and I only saw him because be worked in the same Ad agency. Looking through the files, I saw that DICK AARON, famous criminal lawyer, had a persecution complex. He was convinced that all of his clients that were sent to jail were out gunning for him. As a result he always wore a long white beard and a flowing black cape in order to look inconspicuous. The famous composer, JOHN BARON, could not concentrate on his music because every time he noticed someone passing his window he would stop work to yell down the street D'ya have any stamps? It seemed as if several of the girls had gone into some phase of office work, and they kept on hearing the typewriter bell even after hours. Poor KAY BRESSLER, JEAN DELNO, KATHRYN FLAHERTY, ANN JANKOWSKI, GERTRUDE KALTENBACH, GERALDINE KNOPPA, KATHLEEN HARTHUN, and DOROTHY WARANKA. It must be an occupational disease, In the file marked Teachers I saw the names of quite a few of my former friends. They were all suffering from the same maladyg they wanted to kill their pupils. For shame, LOIS GUMZ, PETER KAMUCHEY, DOROTHY KWICIEN, SANDY SUITS, and MARY LOU THORNBURG! A whole mass of the fellows in the class had gone on to become engineers. ARTHUR JUESCHKE and NEILL LUEDTKE were archi- tectural engineers, WILLAM KRAMER was a design engineer, JACK LUECKENBACH and JAMES WOLF were civil engineers, and DONALD POWICHROSKI was an electrical engineer. They had all suffered nervous breakdowns because they were all competing with each other to design the Universal Nations Building.

I -at l I l Some of my classmates were under some rather odd delusions. JANE BAKER wanted to ride around the world on a horse. TONY DI TRAPANI was on a never ending search to find out how to make money without any work. ELMER HOFFMAN didn't want to do anything. GAY MEYER was convinced that she was the fat woman in the circus, and MARIE NEITZKE wanted to teach school on Mars. I heard the doctor talking to the nurse in the outer oliice, so I hurried through the files, just glancing at the occupations instead of the diagnoses. BARBARA BERGSTROM and DIANE MILLER were physical therapists. DAVID EVANS was a physicist, FRED GRUD- NOWSKI a printer, and SUSAN HECKER a horse-breeder. JOANNE HOHOLIK and DIANE LORENZ were fashion designersg BYRON JORDAN was an ambulance driver. The folder marked Television had an unusual number of people from the same show in it. The show, directed by ANNE SHIPMAN. was written by ANN MUSGROVE, the photography was done by KENNETH NIX, MILDRED MEAD danced in it, and the male and female leads were played by ROGER LUNDHOLM and CAROL MCEACHRON. DARBY EWALD played an elderly lady, KARL SCHNABEL was in the band,.PETER JENSEN ran the slide machine used for commercials, and TOM RICE announced. It looked as if the government didn't agree with others besides the President and the Vice-President. PATSY ROSENAU, who worked for the F.B.I., NELLIE PARKS, who was a social worker, PEGGY LONGBRAKE, who was a forest ranger, and MARIANNA KAULINS, who was an interpretess, were all included in the doctor's files. They all had a mania about a raise in the budget, every time they saw an envelope addressed to them, they thought it was a notice that their salaries had been raised. Some people in medicine had the same idea-chemist ROBERT UEBERFLUSS, and laboratory technician NANCY PHELPS. A bulky folder proclaimed College Life, and therein I found that a group of students had started an athletic college, co-educational naturally, and a course in the college entitled you to the degree of Doctor of Sports. The male coaches were LOUIS AVENI, JOE ENEA, HOWARD BIERMAN, ED NICHOLS, and DON SPOTT. DOTTY MEIDE was professional cheer-leader, and JOAN SHAW was Dean of Women, with RON MAKOWSKI Dean of Men. The doctor also took care of the famous oil tycoon, owner of the Standard Oil Company, NORMAN SCHECTERLE, although he didn't limit his practice to the rich, because I found the names of the former NIERRY VALLEE and GLORIA VOIGHT, housewives. As I finished looking at the last name, the doctor hurried into the ofice. Motioning me to sit down he asked me my name, and why I had come to visit him. My name is SANDY FRIEDMAN I've come here for your aids Because I talk in slogans. How're you fixed for blades?
