Q, Q JM Dear Class of 1960 El You were a small awkward group of elementary school graduates who assembled In the Rlvers audvtorlum that September morning an 1955 to meet the authority of a strange place one which you later consldered your home away from home Already there was a feelmg of togetherness Then you learned that the Prmcrpal of this new domam would b graduated along with your class Even the flrst year proved eventful Spelling champ Fredelle Moyer placed an the county spelling bee whlle lra Berendt was bunldmg a reputation for hlmself as one of Rivers outstanding singers All of you were frlled with delight by the Ivy League style and the promise of a new cafeteria After a year of adaptation you found yourself ln the wondrous world of the freshman class Among your ments this year were Mlss Tlde of 57 Sandra Welters and wmner of the Science Falr Gruber Sires wlth his entry ofa talking robot A highly colorful year awaited you as sophomores with literally speaking e schools flrst paint 'ob In twenty years Wlth a cheery pmk and apple blossom whlte backdrop Becky Brown and Sandra Welters took the honor of runner ups In the Mlss Rivers Contest Contmumg In thus vem for vlctory were Duane Barnwell Blacketball Homecoming Queen and Kenny Rhea footballs Most Improved Player who by the way was rutually refreshed by Bantam water boy James Wheeler Sandra lnflnger Anne Clowney Gwen Seyle and Duane Barnwell supported In colors blue and gold set the scene for the sport of basketball as cheerleaders In 1958 you found yourselves Iumors at last' Ernest Yatells successfully fulled the shoes as President of the Jumor Class The Mlss Rivers Contest the mam prolect of the Jumor Board was emceed by Ira Solomon themed wlth the Old South and accompanied by Jeannette Warren on the piano Merlted thus year were Hasel Rourk Mr Rivers Gina Kronsberg AZ A Sweetheart and Patsy Crosby Basketball Homecoming Queen In the rooting sections KWOW WEE' CHA CHA CHAD were Sandra lnflnger Duane Barnwell and Anne Clowney for football Jan Davis Patsy Crosby Carleen Bunch San dra Welters and Frances Dengate for basketball Carolyn lngool s and Lmda Johnston s engagements and Crelghton Lakes leading a Noveleer assembly caused a lot of Interest among you 'iggx 'WM 'IM lll W f 3 Q I I II ll I , . The dreadful downpours of Hurricane Gracie and the flourishing fires at ESSO were a sure sign that you had weathered many a storm and were now ready to set the world on fire as seniors The blaze of greatest glory was made as Brian Kllllngsworth Student Council Pres: dent Belle Howe Editor of the Tide Anne Bettis President of the Honor Society and Bobby Utsey President of the Senior Class took top honors The Key Club In their prolect of purchasing fans to insure all that this would be a real cool year In school was lead by Gean Martin The Powder Puff Football Game gave Larry Kline head coach with Nutch Glass berg and Gruber Sires the chance to coach the sizzling senior eleven Although you placed second in combat Jan Davis Sandra Rabens Betty Sue Payne Rebue McLemore Margaret Armstrong and T D kid Sandra Scott with captain Patsy Crosby Belle Howe and Margaret Burbage all added a spark to the cause The game was organized by Civic Chairman Steven Zucker and all proceeds turned over to the Freddie Levine Scholarship Fund a fact you should be proud of Rounding out the ring of friendships were new additions Mary Frances Dupree Lil lion Nicholson Glenda Clark mcldently wearing circle pins and male newcomers Butch Petit Ballard Lesemann and James Cormier Riding inthe Christmas Parade were Kenny Rhea and Carleen Bunch Other ovation was given to Miss Tide 60 Sandra lnflnger This years spectacular basketball season proved Fred Rlesen David Levine and Ronnie Varner star players and your team runner up in the Post Courier Tournament Gwen Seyle and David Levine sports editors of the CUB did an excellent lob writ ing on the spot articles of athletic events Supported by the financing capabilities of business managers Laura Steakley and Sue these happenings to be kept as embers In the warmth of memory You were a poised prominent group of high school graduates who assembled In Mem mlnger Auditorium to receive your diplomas that June of T960 Years later you and I will be apart butthat feeling of togetherness will live on as we look back with a comforting thought of the people and the pleasures that made Rivers High School truly a second home Your friend Mr Wemheimer 'S J PgFt ll . ,, . . . .
