1985 Homecoming Court Row one: Tra- cie Kauffman, Parri Sikes, Paula Wendell, Mark Duggin. Row two: Sheri Smith, Ashley Wynne, and ,Valencia Martin. 1985 Homecoming Queen And Court The football players, students, and faculty worked together this year to make Homecoming 1985 the best ever. A week full of fabulous festivities preceded Friday nightls big game and dance. This year's theme was Lovin' Every Minute of lt, and the music was provided by John McCreery. Five young ladies were chosen by the student body to represent Riverdale in the Homecoming Court. Paula Wendell was chosen as the 1985 Homecoming Queen. The court included Ashley Wynne -- Freshman, Tracie Kauffman - Sophomore Attendant, Valencia Martin - Junior Attendant, and Sheri Smith - Senior Attendant. Parri Sikes and Mark Duggin were the Flower Girl and Crown Bearer. Paula Wendell 52 Honors

Girls' State 1985-1986 Volunteer Girl's State is a learning ex- perience in government sponsored by the American Legion. During the spring of their junior year, the girls are selected to attend a camp at M.T.S.U. held the last week of May. The girls learned about all levels of government, including city, county, and state. The girls competed in their own Olympics, skits, and sing- alongs. The participants were as follows: Row one: Liz Crawford, Miriam Dren- nan. Row two: Leah Hulan, Anne Don- nelly, Cathy Christiansen. Summer Challenge And Governor s School 54 f Honors For the past three years, Vanderbilt University has con- ducted a summer study program for forty outstanding ju- niors in Tennessee. Last summer, James Scales participat- ed in this program. Students attending Summer Challenge studied such topics as philosophy, physics, Southern litera- ture, and the arts. The forty students who attended the month-long program came from every region of the state and represented a variety of backgrounds and interests. As part of the Education Reform Act, three Governor's Schools, were established for outstanding students. One hundred students were chosen from Tennessee for each of the schools, which offered enrichment courses. The schools were Math and Science at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Music and Art at M.T.S.U., and Humanities at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Three Riverdale students who participated in the Governor's Schools Pro- gram last summer and the schools they attended were Samantha Messier, Humanities, Margery Norcom, Sci- encesg and Carol Fisher, Arts.
