Varsity Cheerleaders The basketball and football cheerleaders not only supported our athletes, but also promoted school spirit and student involvement. After they were chosen in the spring, the work for both squads began when they attended a one week camp at M.T.S.U, to learn new material and prepare for the cheer- ing seasons. To start off the year, the girls led the greenies in cheers at Freshman Orientation. This paid off when the Freshman Class walked away with the spirit stick from the first pep rally of the year. The cheerleaders also sponsored a More Fun Than Humans Should Be Allowed dance which was the first of the year. To be eligible for cheerleading, an applicant must maintain a 2.5 average, exemplify Riverdale's traditions of school pride and leadership, and display a positive attitude. Some cheer- leaders not only attended every game and function, but in addition, participated in other extra-curricular activities and held jobs. Mrs. Warren, sponsor of the football squad, noted, This group of girls is extremely independent and works well together. They have made my job easier and have served the football team and Riverdale with commendable pride and spirit. Mrs. Kathy Dillon, sponsor of the basketball squad, stated, Basketball Cheerleaders are number one, just like the team itself. They are hard workers and an excellent group of girls. I am proud of them and the effort they put forth. Football Captains - Sheri Smith and Paula Wendell, Ev - 4 ll I 3 Q M , . ,sl . Rag .xl Y , 'Pg I 2' D-S. fa 4 , sf, ,'fl' ' f-4: if t l do -A W.
