F a Horticulture Horticulture is a class which gives students hands-on exper- ience with floriculture, fruits, and vegetables. lt also gives them insight into careers such as nursery work and landscaping. Horti- culture students are encouraged to become involved in Future Farmers of America to promote leadership. Horticulture students are proud of their many former classmates who have been award- ed with scholarships to further their education as a result of their skills developed in this class. The most noticeable contribution of the horticulture classes was the increased beautification of our campus landscape. During the spring and fall, horticulture students were seen around cam- pus busily mulching, fertilizing, and generally improving the plants and grounds. They were also seen in the greenhouse seeding and tending the plants they sell as fund-raisers at the end of the year. Mr. Michael Shew sponsors the horticulture activities at Riverdale. Danny Garrett tends the poinsettias in preparation for a Christmas sale. :ond and Third Year Students - Row one: Susan Lump- Mark Travis.
