Quiz Busters Quizbusters, Riverdale's Quiz Bowl team, is a group of students who voluntarily participated in practice sessions before and after school to increase their knowledge in a variety of areas and to sharpen their recall and speed skills for academic competition. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors were eligible for membership. The students studied a wide range of subjects, such as literature, science, history, art, and current events. The major Quiz Bowl competitions were held in Nashville and at Riverdale, but the most fun for the student body were the competitions be- tween classes. Students practiced tor upcoming con- tests with questions from Trivial Pursuit or those written by faculty members. Prizes were sometimes awarded but academic satisfaction and pride in repre- senting Riverdale were the primary rewards. Quiz Busters sponsors are Ms. Becky I-lofstetter, Mrs. Anita Robinson, and Mr. Michael Vanzant. French Club The French Club is an organization for those students taking a French course. The goal of this club is to promote appre- ciation of French culture and to practice speaking the language. One activity that all the members looked forward to was the seven-course banquet featuring French cuisine. The students prepared, served, and enjoyed eating the food. They were also involved in contests at Middle Tennessee State University and at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. As fund- raisers, they sold candy bars and also sold crepes during Warror Week. Throughout the year students were encouraged to participate in soirees where the only lan- guage spoken was French. The highlight of the year was a trip to Europe last summer. Several French Club members participated, along with two Riverdale teachers, and they visited eight countries during the fifteen-day tour. Ms. Marcia Manley is the sponsor ofthe French Club. .ag Period three- Row one Julie Borders, Shan Hollis, Lori Richardson, Wendi Ellis, Jennifer Harris.
