ffiversaty Early in 1956 the Hobart City Schools notified the township trustee that there was not enough room in Hobart High School to house the freshmen class of the ensuing year. After investigating several possibilities for housing the up- coming 9th grade class, the township decided that the most feasible alterna- tive would be to place the freshmen class in the Henry S. Evans school and to start a holding company for the pur- pose of building a proper high school.” In the summer of 1956 Hobart Township Building Corporation was formed and plans for the new building were started. In June the building cor- poration proudly set the cornerstone. Two months later 3.000 township resi- dents came to look over the new school during its open house ceremony and on September 24. 1958 during a formal dedication. River Forest was born. The school had progressed from a dream into a realization of one of the finest school plants around.” The pro- ject. an accomplishment of a unified effort of all the people in Hobart Town- ship. was the outcome of a community that wanted the best for its youngsters and went out and got it.” Twenty-five years have passed since that dream came true. But as always, with time came change. The building has grown the curriculum has expanded tens of thousands of students have come and gone, yet the underlying idea which fostered the institution itself has been steadfast — a unified effort to provide the best for the youth of Hobart Township. This commemorative edition of the 1983 INGOT attempts to recapture a portion of the past and to highlight the events of this special year. A
