RED CROSS Our Junior Red Cross year sfarfed ouf wifh a bang when fhree Ripon Hi sfudenfs were elecfed as officers in fhe San Joaquin Counfy Council. They were Frank Jacklich, presidenfg Barbara Gerbing, vice-presidenfg and Croce Migliore, secrefary- freasurer. Mrs. Garfman served as faculfy adviser. One of our proiecfs was fhaf of making Chrisf- mas free clecorafions and furnishing 'lwo Chrisfmas frees fo be used in fhe old peoples' wards in Sfock- fon. The Slave Day we sponsored fo raise funds was a greaf success, nof only financially, buf also in fhe way of greal' fun. Frank Jacklich and Croce Migliore parficipafed in fhe J. R. C. radio broad- casl' from Sfockfon. lf proved fo be a new and inleresfing experience for bofh of fhem. The membership drive was also a success, wifh fhe sfudenfs of Ripon Hi giving fheir full supporf. Several members affended fhe Regional Conference in San Francisco, affer which fhey gave a reporl' af a counfy council meefing. We are indebfed fo Mrs. Garfmen for her advice and splendid help, which, wifh The sfudenfs' co-operafion, gave us an- ofher acfive year. We hope fo finish fhe year as we sfarfed if - wifh a big bang of success. Williams, Phillips, Roome. C. S. F. The California Scholarship Federafion chapfer of Ripon High experienced an evenfful and enioy- able year under fhe supervision of fhe adviser, Mr. Arganbrighf. Meefing in fhe laffer parf of Sep- fember, +he C. S. F. members elecfed as firsl' se- mesfer officers: Mary Furfado, presidenfg Darlene Wassink, vice-presidenfg Pansy Gregory, secrefary- freasurerg and Barbara Gerbing and Bill Van Wyk, congressmen. Freaks Wifh Brains and ofher similar ferms were used in describing C. S. F. members when a side show was presenfed fo fhe sfudenl' body by fhis organizafion early in February. Everyone in fhe C. S. F. parficipafed in fhe program, and if furned ou'l' quife successfully, feafuring such mon- sfrosifies as fhe Bearded Lady lRu+h Sanfordl, Mongolian ldiol' lLeal'rice Knopfl, Man-Ea+ing- Chicken lClarence McMurrayl, and fhe Blue Lady lMary Saabyel. The midgef, acfed by Barbara Gerbing and Mary Furfado, was a sfar feafure. Several members affended fhe Manfeca and Livings'l'on disfricl' meefings in December and March. Ripon also sponsored a disfricf meefing in May. Second semesfer officers were: Charles De Vries, presiclenfg Croce Migliore, vice-presidenf: and Darlene Wassink, secrefary-freasurer. GLEE CLUB lf is said fhaf variefy is fhe spice of life. lf surely has been wifh our Glee Club. Mr. Azevedo walked info class fhe firsf morning of school hoping fo find af leasf a few boys in Glee Club, buf alas - all he could see was sixfy girls. The girls sfarfed ouf by elecfing officers as follows: Mary Furfado, presidenfg Carol Poynor, vice-presidenfg Mary Ann Franscella, secrefary-freasurerg and Delores Wassink, congress represenfafive. The biggesf acfivify of fhe firsf semesfer was fhe Chrisfmas Concerf. The Glee Club sang Winfer Wonderland, wifh a solo by Dolores Gomes, Carol Of The Bells, Canfique De Noel, Joyous Chrisfmas Song, and ofher Chrisfmas carols. The girls also parficipafed in a liffle program for Thanksgiving, af which fime fhey sang Now Thank We All Our God. The second semesfer officers were: Sadie Williams, presidenfg Marilyn Travaille, vice-presidenfg and Dolores Gomes, secrefary-freasurer. The members decided fhey would like fo have a weiner roasf and swimming parfy, and invifed fhe faculfy mem- bers fo be fheir guesfs. Everybody had a good fime, buf many sounded wafer- loggeol for a fime afferward. The oufsfanding acfivify for fhe second semesfer was fhe Spring Concerf. The group sang The Erie Canal, wifh Mrs. Alice Taylor as con- fralfo soloisf. The Lilac Tree, Bless This House, Think On Me, Calm ls The Nighf, and Two Quarreling Kiffens. For Easfer assembly fhe club sang Easfer Parade, wifh Marilyn Travaille as soloisf, and Hail The King. As an exfra-curricular acfivify some members of fhe Glee Club wenf fo see fhe opera Carmen in San Francisco. The girls enioyed if so much fhey resolved fo make a refurn frip nexf year. Even fhough if was fough going af fimes, fhe girls and Mr. Azevedo can look back on fhis year wifh a smile. ORCHESTRA ' The mighfy liffle orchesfra sfarfed fhe year exacfly 2l sfrong. Even fhough if was composed of mosfly freshmen and sophomores, if had gained in number and popularify since lasf year. We were very proud of our firsf public appearance, fhe Chrisfmas Concerf, for we received many fine complimenfs for our work. Nexf in our line of appear- ances came fhe school play where we enferfained fhe audience befween acfs. We gave fhe band our supporf in fheir work for new uniforms when we did our porfion of fhe Spring Concerf. Then for our lasf performance we supplied fhe music for Bac- calaureafe. V Serving as our officers for fhe firsf semesfer were: Carla Hansen, presidenfg Pauline Farschon, vice-presidenfg and Gaynl Sfoufferi, secrefary-freasurer. Our second semesfer officers were: Pauline Farschon, presidenfg Edna Vincelef, vice- presiclenfg and Gaynl Sfouffer, secrefary-freasurer. ' We exfend our fhanks lalong wifh our pifyl fo Mr. Azevedo, who so many fimes suffered fhe shrill squawks of Carla's violin, fhe plainfive wail of Carol's sax, fhe ear-spliffing blasf of Frankie's frumpef, and fhe miserable groan of Edna's horn. lf was fun, fhough, and we hope fo expand s+ilI more nexf year. BAND Q The schedule for fhe band fhis year has been a busy one. Officers elecfed for fhe firsf semesfer were: Ed Levin, presidenfg Dwighf Nyquisf, vice-presidenfg Kafh- leen Nicolaysen, secrefary-freasurerg and Joe Bodeson, congressman. Affer march- ing for fhe foofball games, and marching in fhe Armistice Day parade in Escalon, our fime was spenf in preparing for fhe Chrisfmas Concerf, which furned ouf fo be a success. ' The second semesfer officers were: Dwighf Nyquisfjpresidenfg and Carla Han- sen, secrefary-freasurer. For our parfy fhis year, we had a plain old-fashioned parfy. Many games were played, and plenfy fo eaf was provided. Several of fhe band members affended fhe opera Carmen and wenf fo Chinafown for dinner afferward. The band also affended fhe Easf-Wesf Game where fhey parficipafed in pre- game and half-fime ceremonies. The Spring Concerf was held fhis year for fhe purpose of raising enough money fo buy new uniforms, since fhe ones now in use are over fiffeen years old. We hope you will be seeing us in our new uniforms nexf year.
