RED CROSS Our Junior Red Cross year sfarfed ouf wifh a bang when fhree Ripon Hi sfudenfs were elecfed as officers in fhe San Joaquin Counfy Council. They were Frank Jacklich, presidenfg Barbara Gerbing, vice-presidenfg and Croce Migliore, secrefary- freasurer. Mrs. Garfman served as faculfy adviser. One of our proiecfs was fhaf of making Chrisf- mas free clecorafions and furnishing 'lwo Chrisfmas frees fo be used in fhe old peoples' wards in Sfock- fon. The Slave Day we sponsored fo raise funds was a greaf success, nof only financially, buf also in fhe way of greal' fun. Frank Jacklich and Croce Migliore parficipafed in fhe J. R. C. radio broad- casl' from Sfockfon. lf proved fo be a new and inleresfing experience for bofh of fhem. The membership drive was also a success, wifh fhe sfudenfs of Ripon Hi giving fheir full supporf. Several members affended fhe Regional Conference in San Francisco, affer which fhey gave a reporl' af a counfy council meefing. We are indebfed fo Mrs. Garfmen for her advice and splendid help, which, wifh The sfudenfs' co-operafion, gave us an- ofher acfive year. We hope fo finish fhe year as we sfarfed if - wifh a big bang of success. Williams, Phillips, Roome. C. S. F. The California Scholarship Federafion chapfer of Ripon High experienced an evenfful and enioy- able year under fhe supervision of fhe adviser, Mr. Arganbrighf. Meefing in fhe laffer parf of Sep- fember, +he C. S. F. members elecfed as firsl' se- mesfer officers: Mary Furfado, presidenfg Darlene Wassink, vice-presidenfg Pansy Gregory, secrefary- freasurerg and Barbara Gerbing and Bill Van Wyk, congressmen. Freaks Wifh Brains and ofher similar ferms were used in describing C. S. F. members when a side show was presenfed fo fhe sfudenl' body by fhis organizafion early in February. Everyone in fhe C. S. F. parficipafed in fhe program, and if furned ou'l' quife successfully, feafuring such mon- sfrosifies as fhe Bearded Lady lRu+h Sanfordl, Mongolian ldiol' lLeal'rice Knopfl, Man-Ea+ing- Chicken lClarence McMurrayl, and fhe Blue Lady lMary Saabyel. The midgef, acfed by Barbara Gerbing and Mary Furfado, was a sfar feafure. Several members affended fhe Manfeca and Livings'l'on disfricl' meefings in December and March. Joe Nigro and Gaynl Sfouffer ioined in fhe fun by collecfing souvenirs from fhe sfar. The inevifable blind dafe was played by Leafrice Knopf and Ted Barkiey. All acfivifies were finally calmed fhrough fhe publicify furnished by Jerry Sfanley, fhe local reporfer, fo fhe safisfacfion of fhe old grad, Loren Kincaid, and fhe professor, Chuck DeAfley. And fhe girls were once more under fhe confrol of fheir chaperone, Millie Brooks. Af Moclesfo, compefing in her firsf con- fesf, Sharon Mulholand, a beginning speech slu- denf, fook second place in lower division informal speaking. Marian Vieira placed seconcl in upper division of fhe same evenf. Al' Fresno, Eve'yn Silva, Veronica Mufholand, Chuck De Vries, and Jerry Sfanley fied for second in senior rlivision cle- bafe. Loren Kincaid placed second in humorous declamafion. The Tracy fournamenf fhis year was flue of- ficial Nafional Forensic League Tournamenf, and firsf and second place winners are 'ro go fo fhe sfafe finals in Balcersfiefd. Veronica and Evefyn, by virfue of fheir second-place win in clebafe, will go fo Bakersfield on April l5. Luck?
