5 4, I4 German is catchy ! I' S French, German, Spanish, and Latin are offered to a total of one third of the Rio Grande student body by the foreign languages department. The Span- ish classes are unique in that there is a double cur- riculum offered-one for native speakers of the lan- guage, stressing a three-part program of reading, Writing, and speaking, and another for beginning speakers, in which the audio-lingual approach is emphasized in the first two levels. A need to be met in coming years is an extension of the German and French departments from their present two levels to the three or four levels recommended by language authorities.
