' The Biology Department has ex- I panded to offer a full four year course C in science. General Science has been added for freshmen, Psysiology and U Physical Science have been ,added for juniors and seniors. The Biology II course has been revised to two one- semester courses. The department plans U further expansion next year to offer new courses for juniors and seniors who have m an interest in advanced biology areas. This instrument measures the amount of radioactivity in the ' air The General Science classes learned to use many other WW'-4 devices this year. Nl Students learn the composition of plants and animals through demonstrations and examples in their biology classes.

Curriculum The Substance Math analysis is a stimulating study of the past mathematics courses taken in high school. In line with new curriculrun developments, the Rio Grande Mathematics Department has had teachers avidly seeking in- stitutes where they have become familiar with modern concepts. Upgrading has occurred with offerings in modern geometry, algebra, math analysis, and trigonometry and functions. .Rio has four completely equipped math labs and with the es- tablishment of an instructional materials center, there is no reason why the school cannot go as completely modern in approach as it desires. 8 and Physical Sciences Equations and formulas learned in algebra can be helpful in later math courses and in many everyday activities. xi.. i gil' -j,,,.-o1 N'v-R r ff'-S5 Algebra is the first stepping stone to the higher math, which helps in the future.

Industrial Arts Whose footprint? The metal shop does many interesting thingsg among these is aluminum casting. M. .K.s, I .,,, J Drafting is an intricate and precise network of premeditated lines. Several fine tools are used in this art. I0 The Industrial Arts Department is a place where students may explore different phases. of work: metals, woods, drafting, art, and arts and crafts. In these elective courses, students learn the use of hand tools and basic machines, and methods of procedures prescribed in the different areas. These courses can greatly enhance the creativeness and self-satisfaction of a student. The wood crafts shop employs many devices and skills in their art. This device being used by one of the students is a planer. ,f' Scissors and paper are useless, but with some imagination and a little skill it can be made into numerous articles both beautiful and decorative.
