The Science Club The primary purpose of the Rio Grande High School Science Club is to promote interest' among students in all fields of science. Each spring the Science Club sponsors the Rio Grande Science Fair, a function which permits any Rio Grande student to do research in the science field of his or her choice and then display his project publicly and in open competition. Projects which gain enough recognition from judges of the local fair are selected for competition in the Northwestem Regional Science Fair sponsored each year by the University of New Mexico. If the project survives the keen competition in the Regional Fair, it may be selected for state or national competition. In addition to sponsoring the Science Fair, the club also promotes field trips to local industrial and government plants and various places of scientific interest. Also, during the 1963-1964 school year, the Science Club operated a photo developing service for Ravens. However, the 1964-1965 school year found the club without enough members who were qualified in photography to offer this service. Interest in photography prevailed however, and the members quickly organized instruction sessions which were taught by Mr. Kenneth Cave, a Rio Grande faculty member, who is a competent photographer.
