Symbol of a Changing Rio Grande Not in vain the distance beacons, Forward, forward let us range, Let the great world spin forever clown the ringing grooves of change. Tennyson The year 1963-64 has brought many changes to Rio Grande High School. Three new buildings have appeared on the campus in which to teach our in- creasing enrollment. We have added new programs and new teachers. l.B.M. Cards have taken the place of the old, time-consuming methods of reporting grades. The student government has been modified to include class officers. Of the mainy changes that have taken place this year, the most significant has been the new administration. As a symbol of this' changing school, we proudly dedicate the 1964 Po-Ye-Da to our principal, Mr. Gilbert Miranda. If the primary aim of education is directed towarcl the welfare of human beings, then the develop- ment and practice of ideas is the maior responsibility' of a conscientious RAVEN. It must be his endeavor to know and understand himself as he functions in- dividually and collectively. The challenge is great, the purpose is not always clear. It may be to a student's advantage to investigate the notion that man cannot conceive ideas without forming images. Images are built on choices that may or may not reflect the dignity and worth of the individual. The choice of a student must be to strengthen a con- structive self-concept that will create and inspire a wholesome image of a school, state, community and world. If Rio Grande High School is to operate within the framework of ideas which consist of insights into images that strengthen or censure modes of behavior and attitucles, then RAVENS must be will- ing to accept the challenge of developing and un- derstanding the type of individual self-concept that will foster pride and success in community living.
