Speedy Ernie a UTSTHII din ERNIE LUERAS The outstanding wrestler for 1964 is ERNIE LUERAS. As a sophomore Ernie was the outstanding wrestler at the Y.M.C.A. Tournament. He is as great as any state champion we have had at Rio. The only thing that slowed him down were iniuries: first, a shoulder, then an ankle and then a rib. IN SPITE of his bad luck Ernie never took a back seat to anyone. He always wrestled to win. When he lost, he always worked that much harder. IN PRACTICE, when you combine Ernie's strength and attitude with his ability to wrestle, you have a real champion. For that is what Ernie is. -coAcH CIP ESQUIBEL

SPORTS This year Rio Grande's sports have seen many fine athletes emerge. There has been hard work on' the part of the coaches and boys to give the student body the best performance they could. ln victory or defeat the stu- dent body is proud of its Raven athletes. 249

Gonzales, Lueras., thletes ALBERT SPEEDY GONZALES SPEEDY GONZALES has been a starter on the Raven football team for three years. He has improved to a point where this, his senior year, he was picked first team All-State Guard. In my estimation Speedy would be an outstanding football player anywhere in the country. He is big, strong, and fast and has all the necessary equipment to go on and become an outstanding college player. He is an excellent blocker and one of the best defensive linemen I have had the privilege to see. Speedy also did our place kicking on kick-offs and extra points. This boy was chosen as the outstanding football player for 1963 by his team mates. -COACH AL WRIGHT ALBERT could always be counted upon to perform to the very limit of his capabilities. He was our leading rebounder, one of our top two scorers, and most important of all, he possessed an unyielding desire to win. -COACH LARRY TUTTLE
