Dedication When Ridgewood Military Academy first opened its doors during the war-strewn years, there appeared, in 1943, a serious need for trained, earnest teachers. The first to respond to this call were two educators of long experience and skillful versatility. Both applied them- selves eagerly to the challenging complications of the new school in Woodland Hills. As the years went by, they easily adjusted themselves to the new conditions and the chang- ing cultural environment of Ridgewood. Their interest and presence was not confined to the classroom, but dur- ing most of the contest which the seasonal sports produced, they lent frequent personal and vocal support to the Ridgewood teams. They became personalities on the campus, alert and eager partisans in the many activities that form the pat- tern of a school's daily existence. Then, in 1949, after their long careers in the educa- tional service and with Ridgewood well established as a scholastic entity, they retired from active duty. As a token of our appreciation for their generous at- tachment to Ridgewood, and for the vivid part they played in the early years of the school, we dedicate this year's TABARD to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Franklin Honn. 4'

THRICE LOVELIER ARE THE THINGS THAT LAST, THE THINGS THAT ARE MORE EXCELLENT. i Once again the time has come when xiecol- lections and hopes crowd upon us. The ipast and the future are immediately brought close to us. Our thoughts wander back to the itime when the foundations of this Academy were laid, and forward to the time when those vsdhom itis our oflice to guide and teach will bel the guides and teachers of our posterity. On the present occasion we may, witih a proud propriety, give such thoughts their lnat- ural course. This is the seventeenth year of your Academy's existence. At such jubilees as these, jubileesi which no individual really isees more than once, it is natural, it is good, Khat a society like this, a society which survives all transitory parts of which it is composed, at so- ciety which has a corporate existence and a perpetual succession, should review its annals. It should retrace the stages of its growth, from infancy to maturity, and should try to find in the experience of generations which have passed away, .lessons which may be profitable to generations yet unborn. The retrospect is , full of interest and surely blessed with instruction. It is pleasant to look back, and equally pleasant, also, to look ahead.
