The Irish football team showed a marked improvement this year with a 7-2 record, which is the best for a Riddle team in many years. FOOTBALL There was disappointment along with the excitement this year when the Irish fell eight points short of a trip to the state playoffs in a 14-6 loss at Glendale. The personal statistics were very good with Jim Nelson rushing for over one thousand yards, while Jim Brown rushed for over eight hundred yards, and Randy Dew for five hundred yards. To highlight the season the Irish also placed eight people in nine positions on the All-League teams, and Jim Nelson on the Shrine team. A couple of new coaches also did a good job this year. Coach Funston did an excellent job with the line, while Coach Nolz helped out with the backs and coached the JV team. 1. Irish intent as quarterback Shawn McClendon calls the play. 2.
