David Kinkade Robert Jenkins f f i) a VALEDICTORIAN SALUTATORIAN American Legion Award Outstanding Boy (Second Year) In the fall of 1952, twenty-three trembling freshmen walked uncertainly up the sidewalk into their first year of High School. First, of course, the initiation began by dressing the Freshmen in out-landish costumes. They were paraded uptown and thoroughly tortured before they were released for games and refreshments. Nancy Myers was chosen as one of the majorettes this year. 1953 arrived with twenty-three sophomores, two new ones to replace those who had left. These were Carolyn Jordan from Arkansas and Roy Weatherford from Texas. That year Nancy Myers was chosen as a song leader, Jean Anglin as a yell leader, and Waylis Havron as a majorette. Our Junior year of high school began with twenty-five students, six of whom were new that year. These were Frank VanAtta from California, Bill Anderson from Wisconsin, Reynold Fairchild from Central Point, Beverly Thompson from Colorado, Edgar Holland from Arkansas, and Dorothy Littlefield from Sutherlin. This year Shirley Zimmerman and Jean Anglin were yell leaders. We presented the play, Take Three Girls. We honored the seniors with a lovely banquet and prom; the theme was Starlight. Shirley Zimmerman and Waylis Havron were majorettes. Our Senior year finally arrived with twenty-seven pupils. Our new students included Patti Griffiths from Idaho, Keith Nading from Coss Bay, Stanley Lemire from California, and Caroline Voss from Days Creek. We presented the play, Backwoods Romeo, and were entertained by the Juniors at a delicious banquet and a lovely prom. Our Prom King and Queen were Jim Endicott and Nancy Myers. Beverly Thompson and Shirley Zimmerman were chosen as yell leaders. We all went to Jantzen Beach on our skip day and were accompanied by Tex and Mrs. Ritter. Graduation, with its intermingled joy and sadness, is the final event in the history of the Class of '55. We look confidently toward the future to see what the years will bring to us.
