Richwoods Community High School now stands on the area once known as a non-high school district. High School District Number 312 was formed. From the time the first high school board of education was elected and organized on August 21, 1951, the members all worked toward progress. The board sought and gained the authorization of the people to plan and build this new high school in the Richwoods District, north of the city of Peoria. When on September 3, 1957, the school opened its doors to a new student body, progress had become a reality.
