MeDavid, our superintendent, it is necessary for our thoughts to journey backward in time. To appreciate Mr. McDavid's contribu- tions we must look back to all the decisions and follow-up tasks demanded by the selection and approval of the minute and the important in everything from a pupil’s desk to the location of the auditorium; back to the coordination and cooperation required by the public parentage of our school; back to the choosing of the faculty and the registering of the student body; back to the form- ulation of policies and their administration; back to the corner-stone laying and our school’s open- ing day; back to his selection of an excellent staff to assist him in carrying out his responsibilities; and back to the culmination of all these efforts which was realized in the dedication of Kichwoods Community High School on November 17, 1957. From this backward look we gain the perspective needed to fully appreciate all of the splendid achievements of Mr. MeDavid and his assistants. This over-all view spurs us all on to a forward look into a brighter future for Kichwoods under the lead- ership of our superintendent to whom this first edition of the EXCALIBUR is respectfully dedicated. THE STAFF The late Mr. FRANK PERARDI, First President of the Rich- woods Community High School Board of Education. IN nPPRECIHTION FIRST BORRD MEMBERS Mrs. MARION MEYER Mr. WHEELER McDOUGAL Mr. FRANK PERARDI Mr. FRANK E. PITTMAN Dr. FRED C. ENDRES Mr. WILLIAM B. MATTOCKS Mr. H. FREDERICK LANGE Mr. L. EDWARD ROBY PRESIDENT Mr. WHEELER McDOUGAL Mr. CHARLES L. PATTISON Mr. HENRY H. TRIEBEL SECRETARY BOARD OF EDUCATION Looking forward is progress. Richwoods Community High School now stands on the area once known as a non-high school district. High School District Number 312 was formed. From the time the first high school board of education was elected and organized on August 21, 1951, the members all worked toward progress. The board sought and gained the authorization of the people to plan and build this new high school in the Richwoods District, north of the city of Peoria. When on September 3, 1957, the school opened its doors to a new student body, progress had become a reality. Without our excellent and interested board of education, this progress would never have been achieved. Mr . GEORGE MEYER, Jr. 6 Mr. RALPH HOERR DR. FRED C. EXDRES SUPERINTENDENT McDAVID Under the capable leadership of Mr. FRED McDAVID, Mr. WAYNE CRAWFORD, Mr. RICHARD ERZEN, and Miss HELEN CURRAN, Richwoods Community High School has developed into one of the leading high schools in the state of Illinois. The administrative stafT have selected the best materials, equipment, and people necessary for the best possible education. Their foresight has made our school one that will long be remembered by the students and the public. JUNIOR CLASS Now that our junior year is coming to a close, let us review some of the important highlights. We started off the year by electing class officers and student council representatives. Next we awaited the arrival of our junior class rings. Throughout the year we attended many dances, but the one we shall remember longest is our wonderful Junior Prom. Now that we have turned the clock backward to glance at past highlights, let us look forward to another wonderful year at Richwoods Community High. 42 ALBRIGHT, ANDY APPLEGATE, CAROL ASHER, AUER, ROBERT AUGUSTINE, RON LINDA LOUISE BACKUS, GEORGEANN BARKER, NANCY CLASS OF 1959 BALL, DAVID BARNES, GARY BARRATH, BARTHOLOMEW, BAYS, PHILLIP BECK, MARCIA BECERRA, SYLVIA GEORGETTE PATRICIA 43 BELDEN, ROGER BIDDISON, RALPH BILL, ALLEN BINGAMON, DIXIE BINKELE, JANE BOYER, WILLIAM HARVEY BRANDT, PERRY BROWN, JOE BROWNELL, MARTHA BUCK, CHARLES, Jr. BUCK, JULIA ANN BUTLER. We chose wisely our class officers and representatives for the student council. Many of these school leaders tried out then- leadership abilities for the first time and proved great successes. The traditional geometry and biology classes for sophomores required many long hours of study. New activities were introduced to us this year. A few of our boys made the varsity football and basketball squads, promising us an experienced team within the next two years. Yes, this has been a good year, but we look ahead to even bigger and better things next year as juniors. 62 ADKINS. EDWARD O. AM BEAD. ROBERT ANDERSON. GLORIA APACKI. CLASS OF 1961 On September 6, 1957, 365 eager, but frightened, freshmen entered the halls of Richwoods Community High School. During our first year in high school, we “frcshics” had many firsts. Among them was our first big high school football game when we all went with the gang. The girls had their first crush on a senior hero. Our algebra and speech classes proved to be more fun than we had expected. Class Officers and representatives for student council were chosen with care. Our class of 1961 is looking forward with antici- pation to the three remaining years at Richwoods Community High. 71 ABNER. GLORIA ADAMS, JUDITH ADKINS, SHIRLEY JEAN ADKINSON, HARRY ALAMEDA. FOOTBALL 'Hie Knights first football season proved to be successful in many ways. Although they won only two games, they established a reputation as a team to be reckoned with. In doing so, they also helped Rich woods gain the respect of many other schools. The students were very proud of the 2-4-3 record which the team turned in against tough opj osition. Coach Juska and the whole school is looking forward to the second great year of Richwoods football.
