SYLVAN MYERS Department Chairman English 4, Study Hall CURRICULUM The general purpose of the curriculum in English is to teach young people the language skills involved in communicat- ing information and feelings effectively. To this end attention is directed in all English classes to reading, writing, speak- ing, and listening. The tenth year course emphasizes the reading of world litera- ture; the eleventh year, American literature; and the twelfth year, English literature. Specific class- es offer additional train- ing in public speaking, drama, and journalism. Special features of the curriculum include view- ing films, attending the theater, debating, and listening to phonograph recordings by specialists in the language arts.
