MEMORIALS Last June, former mathematics teacher Mr. Anthony Toporas passed away Mr. T .” as he was fondly called, was an educator throughout his entire life His wife died in the early 1970's; and Mr. T. taught his three daughters Elainey, Elizabeth, and Joantha — to be compassionate and confident in their abilities His daughters were inspired by his drive to learn as much as possible: Elainey became a physical education teacher, and Elizabeth attended Rochester Institute of Tech nology and Cornell University. Mr Toporas worked at Turbodyne for several years before coming to R.C.S. in 1967. Throughout the years, he patiently worked with students on their math skills. He also was a class advisor and assisted four superintendents. Though Mr T had officially retired from the teaching profession, he never retired as a teacher. He was teaching remedial math at Scio Central School at the time of his death. Students and staff members will always remember Mr. T.'s whistling in the hall and his favorite saying: Scooby-Dooby- Doo. In the morning he would an- nounce that day's menu as The Hillbottom Cuisine ; in the afternoon, he would sing on the p.a. system, The buses are leaving. Goodby; goodbye. The buses are leaving, let's fly; let's fly! Those who worked with Mr Toporas will always be grateful for the effect he had on their educatinal growth and on their lives. MR. ANTHONY TOPORAS On October 28, 1986, former-student Thomas Howard died. Tom achieved many goals while he was a student at R.C.S. He loved sports and played soccer and basketball for four years. He also wrote sports articles for the school newspaper. Tom was a talented musician and performed in the concert and marching bands. He was also selected for the Senior All-County Band and performed in the Solo Festival. Tom was a leader and was elected class president during his sophomore and senior years and class vice-president during his freshman and junior years. He was also co-editer of the yearbook during his senior year. A naturally bright individual, Tom was a diligent student. He was inducted into the Junior National Honor Society and National Honor Society. He received the Baush and Lomb Science Award and was valedictorian of his class. No one will forget Tom's poignant graduation speech. Tom had a wonderful sense of humor and influenced many people's lives. He will remain Always a Friend . A true friend unbosoms freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably . . Death cannot kill what never dies. Nor can spirits ever be divided that love and live in the same Divine Priniciple. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are. in the best sense, ever present, because immortal. ' William Penn THOMAS HOWARD 2 Memorials
