RETIREMENTS Mrs. Eva Rae McElroy retired last Fall after twenty years of service to Richburg Central School Mrs. McElroy worked at The Citizens National Bank and First Trust Union Bank before becoming a full-time employee at R.C.S. She worked as an aide with Mrs. Ellabelle Monihan before assuming duties as the full-time guidance secretary. Mrs McElroy was guidance secretary for Mrs Elizabeth Lee, Mrs Ruth Young Mr Stanley Harris, and Miss Betty Pappas during her years of service She provided invaluable assistance to hundreds of students as she made their appoint- ments, gave them financial aid forms, and helped them fill out various form . In addition to these duties, Mrs McElroy was the tax collector and attendance officer. Each year she set up the attendance registers and kept track of thousands of excuses. Even if Mrs. McElroy was at home ill. she kept up with her myriad duties. Not only was Mrs. McElroy a conscientious worker, but she also was a selfless, considerate person. No matter if it was raining or snowing, Mrs. McElroy would go to the bank in Bolivar each day to deposit cafeteria money. She never felt inconvenienced if others asked her to get a card or medicine while she was downtown. She typed resumes and letters for others and even reminded some of her bosses of their anniversaries! Because she saw the good in people, she inspired others to also. We’ll miss seeing Mrs. McElroy's expression of joy as she walked her grandchil- dren down the hall at school. Though she won’t be smiling at us whenever we walk by the guidance office, we ll always feel her presence. MRS. EVA RAE McELROY Mr Robert Umiker retired unceremoniously in June after teaching social studies at R.C.S. for 28 years. Mr. Umiker began his career at Smethport Central School before coming to Richburg. While here, he helped students in many ways. He chaperoned senior trips and directed plays. He also coached basketball for several years. During his tenure, he was vice-principal under two principals Students will always remember the assistance Mr Umiker gave them while preparing for the history regents—and while preparing for life. There weren't many days when he didn't have a philosophical quotation written on the black- board or posted on the doors of his room His immeasurable knowledge benefited both students and staff members. Mr Umiker never called attention to his efforts, but we would like to wish him good luck during his retirement and let him know how much we appreciate the time and work he devoted while nurturing students.
