To the hosun's mates who fought the January North Atlantic gale on the focsl to refuelthe ship, sun- burned their backs chipping bulkheads in the Red Sea and sacrificed liberty in Athens to repair the boat davits, you have gained my respect. 2. To the gunner's mates who kept the gun on the line despite extremes of weather and frequent demands for fire, the gun fire controlmen who found the targets and outshot the cruisers, the missilemen who saw five, shot five and hit five, you have gained my congratulations. 3. To the ASROC techs who kept it ready, the torpedomen who fired and recovered and the sonarmen who searched and detected, you have gained my admiration. 4. To all the department, your responsible conduct ashore, immaculate spaces, superb appearance and driving desire for excellence are deeply appreciated.
