I-hstory of the Semor Class In August IQI7 there came to Rh a C ntral I-hgh School from the publlc schools of Dayton and Rhea County fortv nine boys and gurls r1ng1ng 1n age from thxrteen to seventeen ye1rs To these was added one from Chattanooga makmg our number fifty Proud of our numbers and conhdent ofour abnhty we marched toward the bulwarks of educatnon wlth brave hearts 1nd hlgh heads but just 1 few skrrmlshes wlth Latm de clensxons Algebraic equations et cetera forced us to dlg xn Thenceforth we made haste slowly Durmg thls year we dxd httle else than learn to study 1nd alas' and alackl ten of our number faded to do enough of that to pass Miss Arr1nts Enghsh Ohl what lS more grilling than hrst year 1t hlgh When worries crowd round you galore? The smart upper cl1ssmen your patnence to try W1ll snub you or else they ll ignore When X2 Y2 you get through your head And the value of X you can find Those old latm verbs make you wnsh you were dead And Blology frxghtens you bhnd Toward the end of the term however you flnd If you faithfully work day by day You can chase all your bug bears away To make Freshman life more tolerable rn the Sprmg Mxss Langford gractously took us on a pxcnlc to Rxddle s Sprmg The followmg year our class numbered thnrty We felt 1 httle more kmdly toward the upper classmen and as we became better acquamted wlth quadratlc we felt 1 httle less dread for Prof Fooshee Then too me could now begm to look ln commlserauon on the fralltles of the Hrst year pupils Even IU dramatlcs 1 fort jealously guarded by important UUIOFS and dlgmhed Seniors we were allowed to p1rt1c1pate t1k1ng part 1n the Commencement play A partlcularly pleasmg event of our Sophomore year was a social afternoon of games and refreshments on the Hlgh School campus ofwhlch we were both hosts and guests umors' How 1mportant we felt although our class now numbered but twenty two and of these two dropped out early rn the year We became more actlve ln athletxcs three boys making the football and two the b1sketb1ll team Contmumg our pursult of the lllSI!'lOI1lC art some of our members took part m the patrxotnc celebratlon of Armlstmce Day and many of us played 1mportant roles rn plays glven xn the second and thxrd semesters Durmg our junnor ye1r we elected class officers and selected as our class parents Mr and Mrs George T Cunnyngham On February 14th we entertained wxth a Valentlne Party havmg as our guests the Faculty the Seniors and thenr class parents and our class parents In Aprll Mr and Mrs Cunnyngham most dehghtfully entertalned us ln thelr home At last we were Senmorsl Sxxteen of us reached the goal we had set for ourselves four FIfTUEUUUUllfJUllUflGD ' D 9 U - 7 7 " "' , I, , K 7 L . 7 , 7 . 5 . years before and one other came to us from Sprrng Cxty but two members dropped out early m the year leavmg us fifteen Of the srx boys m the Senior Class three were on the football team We were singularly art1st1c four belong to the Gxrl s Glee Club four to the Mando l1n and Gultar Club three are proflcxent in Plano and three 1n EXPYCSSIOD We have had the umque dxstmctlon of havmg four br1des In our class One glrl mar rred nn the summer and drd not return to school another marrrecl m the fall and thence forth stayed wxth her husband whlle two marrxecl and continued the1r studles wrth us If rt be true that a change works wonders and that variety IS the sprce of lrfe w should be a wonderfully spxcy class for dur1ng the first three years of our hlgh school course we had flve Sclence teachers and we close our Senior year with only Prof Foo chee and Miss Lankford remarnmg of the five members of the faculty wrth whom we began the year On December 23rd Mr and Mrs Cunnyngham entertained us wxth a theatre party at The Lyric On December 22nd we entertamed at the hugh school 1n honor of Prof Wexr the out gomg Sclence teacher and on anuary 22nd we were Jomt host wlth the umors honorrng Mrss Arrants the out gomg Englnsh teacher In February we gave a pxcmc IH honor of Prof Hicks the out going Hxstory teacher and Athletlc coach The socxal features have served to furnrsh relaxatnon from the stram of tests exams and the Annual for to us belongs the credlt for edrtmg the Hrst Annual that Rhea Central I-hgh has ever had As a class we have worked together wrthout fr1ct1on the class spmt having been fine throughout Our instructors have been pams takmg conscxentrous and Llnfalllngly help ful As we go forth new realms to explore may we honor the1r efforts m our behalf during these four years so full of meamng ln our l1ves Our hxgh school days brought us both trxals and joys But we ve usually worked with a sm1le That s just why we 2I mardens and boys Have made up a class so worth whxle Our four years behmd us a story that s told We Il press toward the llght 1n the sky Tho we bask 1n life s sunshine or quake ln 1ts co d Here s three cheers for Rhea Central l"l1gh GAC 7 7 , . . v . .
