Any questions on these matters are carried back to the rooms by the members for discu.s.on in order that the 'will of the students may be voiced. This year the Board, under the guidance of Mr. Karl J. Weber, vice-principal contributed the following to the l949-SO season: l. The High School entered a three-year agreement with Clint W. Lee Company so that students will get a better price on announcements for graduation. 2. New uniforms were purchased this year for the band, basketball and baseball squads. 3, We contributed to the March of Dimes, the Junior Red Cross, Community Chest. The Board of Control gave an impetus to the filling of Junior Red Cross gift boxes through setting up a little store where these articles may be purchased so that a uniformity of sizes may be obtained to make packing easier. 4. We are co-operating with Auburn High School in the formation of the Puget Sound League Student Council, We contemplate this will aid in clarifying student problems that are common to all schools cf the league such as: letters and chevrons, school sweaters, girls' play days, exchange assemblies, etc. 5. We enlarged our club activities to include the Chess Club, the United Nations Club, and the Dis- tributed Education Club. SNAP Il0'l' Bugologistsn Mix Masters. Torchy. Xiu Florence Nightingales. Under the capable supervision of its advisor, Mrs. Mehus, the Girls' Club had another very outstanding year. Who can forget the Mothers' Tea, the Tolo dances, Courtesy week or our Christmas food drive? These activities will long be remembered in the social life of each and every student. BUYS' CLUB The Boys' Club, under the supervision of Mr. Rudolph Seppi, has completed another chapter in its fine history. The activi- ties of the club are planned to carry out their part in general welfare work, discipline, and student morale, and offer good training in citizenship and character building. The following calendar of Boys' Club activities illustrates how well it carries out its part in the progress of the school. September l6: The officers were introduced and Mr. Stanley Thompson gave a short talk on What Do You Gain From a High School Education? October 27: The Girls' and Boys' Club held a joint meeting and Teenage Problems were discussed by a panel of parents and students. November l5: Dad's Night. Open house was declared and the boys and their fathers were entertained in the auditorium by the Pep Band, followed by an exhibition by Seattle University basketball team. December l6: Career Day is sponsored through the combined efforts of the Girls' and Boys' Clubs. Vocational speakers from many different fields were present. February 28: The Washington State Department presented a program on hunting and fishing. April 25: The club conducted a talk on the plaque system and other items of interest to the students. at oils. 1? a,,s 'VCI' 'il' DEE JARDINE OWEN PROCTOR RONNIE ROBERTSON President Vice President Secretary if ',.. v'+' .nf LAURNELL COOPER BOB LUNDQUIST JEAN KAWACHI Vlce Presudent Presudent Secretary TIIBCII SOClE'l'Y The Torch Socuety under the capable guudance of Mass Elsue Chandler ns one of the most respected clubs nn school To become a member a student must have a scholastnc average of 3 2 or better and three tnmes out of 4 quarters After beung on Torch for three consecutxve years the sensors receive a permanent Torch pm at the award assembly whlch ns held on the last day of school Some of the clubs actlvntues throughout the year are decorating the Torch Chrnstmas Tree In the mann foyer conductung assemblies and the annual Torch Breakfast held an the sprung whlch Torch alumna are cordially :nvrted to attend 'K' 1 Q TORCH CHRISTMAS TREE I 2 , T A N 2 Q, 2,1 Q v,Q 1 f B ' - If 1, . . , . s T J an 4 ' W C , ,ff ' Q - 1919.2 Q3 :QQ ' 154 I I A ' Y G t J 1 - -2 . - .. qc 5-Q Vx EROPQT ROW left to right Marcia MacDonald Soma Edwards Laurnell Cooper lean Kawachi Barbara Lippert Dian Shaw Bob Lundquit Diane Hou ard L o ee hirley Olson Evelyn Hammond Betty Washburn SECOND ROW Evenell Hagerty Ben Kitaio Monty Cooke Dick Burrows Ronald Abbott lad?
