This year’s guest of honor was Mr. H. B. Clark, editor of the Rensselaer Republican, who for 50 years has been an ardent Rensselaer fan. Although the Bomber football squad played well, they couldn’t quite handle the La- fayette Knights. 63 1969 Junior-Senior Prom King and. Queen of Camelot Deb Cochran and Charlie Williams 64 The setting of the 1969 Junior-Senior Prom, the first to be held in the new school, was Camelot. Couples entered over a drawbridge and were entranced into a world of fair maidens, knights in shining armor, and round tables. Lady Guenevere, a lovable knight named Frank, and a me- nagerie of delightful dragons supervised the festive affair. 65 66 67 Dave Rodibaugh, Valedictorian Paula Teske, Salutatorian Honor Students Not finished, just begun. 70 71 Northwest Hoosier Conference Champions Row 1: J. This year ' s football team enjoyed an excellent season. Coach Siderewicz’s grid men captured the Northwest Hoosier Conference Champion- ship. This conference consists of R.C.H.S., Twin Lakes, Winamac, Knox, and North Judson. The team compiled a 7 and 2 record, the only defeats at the hands of Delphi and Lafayette Central Catholic. The season was Coach Siderewicz’s fifth consecutive winning season with Bomber football squads. 72 The football team at all times well represented our school. Every time the team was on the field for a game, the Rensselaer fans could be sure that its team would give it all they had. FOOTBALL AWARD WINNERS: Co-Captains: Edmonds and Edwards Most Improved: Baer and Luers Defensive Player: Yeoman Back of the Year: Yeoman Lineman of the Year: Edmonds Red Cap Award: Feldhaus Mental Attitude: Cooley and Kohlhagen Silver Stars: Edmonds Gold Stars: Lintner 73 7 4 The 1969 Bomber basketball team captured the North Newton Sectional with two thrilling victories; over Lowell in the afternoon semifinals, and in the evening beating a good Benton Central team, to take the crown. The main reason for both Rensselaer vic- tories was the attitude of the players — they never gave up. And the announcer said. “Will the fans please remain in their seats.” First Sectional Crown since ’63 75 The RCHS basketball squad for 1968-1969 had three goals in mind when the season began: the Holi- day Tourney, the Northwest Hoosier Conference Championship, and the Sectional Crown. By the end of the season, every goal had been achieved. The regu- lar season record was 18 wins against 2 losses; the season was highlighted by victories over West La- fayette and Twin Lakes. All Conference players Larry Edmonds and Bob Clouse con- trolled the backboards throughout the season. 76 Hustle and defense characterized the Bomber squad this year. The participants (winners and losers) started a new trend in R.C.H.S. recreational activity. WINNERS: 90 iUllim iHi Two outstanding athletes in the Class of 1969 are Ron Fenwick and Larry Edmonds. Ron and Larry led our basketball team to a Sectional victory and on to the Regional. Ron ' s 51 points against Hebron set a new school record and also surpassed the Rensselaer High School record. Larry also aided the football team in securing the conference crown. He was co-captain of the football team, and he received the Lineman of the Year Award. 91 92 93 94 And happiness is teachers who care. 95 Miss R.C.H.S. Deb Cochran Mr. Dennis Lavery Great men, as a matter of tradition, have always had monuments built in their honor for the purpose of preserving their memory. A teacher is a builder of his own. Whatever the members of the Class of 1969 become, it will be, in a large part, a result of the teachings of Dennis Lavery. This truly great man began five years ago building his memory and impressing his thoughts ever so gently upon our minds. He will not be forgotten by the Class of 1969. We, his class, stand as a monument of his own making. 97 Senator Robert F. Kennedy once said: Some men see things as they are and ask ‘why?’ — I dream things that never were, and ask ' why not?’ ” As we set out to make our fortunes in this world, it is our hope that the Class of 1969 will keep dreaming — and make those dreams realities.
