Reno 52 f Ely O Reno 35 - Nevada Union 13 Reno 13 - Rancho 6 Shasta Union 20 - Reno 13 Reno 27 - Bishop Armstrong 6 Las Vegas 13 - Reno 7 Chico 12 - Reno 7 Reno 12 f Red Bluff 6 Reno 31 - Sparks O The season was opened with a tremendous bang. Scores for Reno were made by Gene Germain, Joe Hesse, Freeman Matson, Tom Spain, Fred Kotter, Louie Tomburello, and Gerry Hook. Great running by Gerry Hook and Tom Crossett sparked this win, for the two halfbacks gained over half of Reno's total ground yard- age. Crossett tallied two TD's while Hook, Pete Lean, and Gene Ger- main scored one each. Clutch running by Reno's two dangerous halfbacks, Tom Crossett and Gerry Hook, proved the difference in this tight game. Touch' downs were made by Hook and Lean. Reno lost its first game of the season when the Huskie ground game was unable to penetrate the rugged Wolve defense. Both of the Huskie scores came by air with joe Hesse and Gerry Hook on the ref ceiving end of two of Pete Leanis passes. Ed Pine, big Reno center, turned in the sparkling defensive game of the season by making the whopping total of 20 tackles. The Huskies dumped the previously unbeaten Falcons in a roughly played game. Reno touchdowns were chalked up by Gerry Hook, Mike Saumer, Gene Germain, and Steve Arch. Although the Huskies pushed the Wildcats all over the field, they were unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities. Freeman Matson was responsible for the lone tally. For the second straight game, the Huskies dominated the statistics but were unable to move the ball when it counted most. The lone exception was a romp to paydirt by Gerry Hook. Dad's Day saw a scoring run by Gene Germain, and a touchdown toss from Pete Lean to loe Hesse paced the Huskies to a hardfearned victory. The explosive running of halfback Tom Crossett helped Reno to its satisfying win over the Railroaders. Crossett scored 3 times while Pete Lean and Gerry Hook tallied one TD each. This year's edition of Huskie footballers was very successful. Al- though we didnlt win the championships in the NIC or NIL conferences, with a little luck we could have done so easily. The overall Reno record was 6 wins and 3 losses, and in each loss the margin of defeat was by only one touchdown. Perhaps if we had played all of our games at home, we could have gone undefeated, for all of the games lost were played on the road. Much of the credit for the success of the season should go to Head Coach Dick Trachok and Line Coach Bob Benson. A great number of fine players from last year's squad were lost by graduation, and a great deal of work was necessary to build a winning squad.
