wonderful enterta1nment IS to be gtven Every performer was at one trme a resldent of thrs town and was a graduate from our hlgh school The hour for the great event has arrrved Every seat rn the aud1tor1um rs frlled and all are eagerly awa1t1ng the performance ln whrch many dellghtful surprrses have been promrsed The platform IS a mass of beautrful flowers Seated rn the audrence are many celebr1t1es As I look about me I see a number of my classmates I see Allen Green who has become very wealthy through w1se mvestments Not so far away S113 Donald Robmson who 15 manager of a noted basketball team 11m Ed Strnson 15 seated near and 13 greeted by all I-le IS owner and manager of a huge cham of restaurants known all over the country as the Eat and Run Restaurants Howard Sowell IS seated 1n the mrddle a1sle l-le IS well known as a Southern Da1ryman who owns so many cattle that he has to keep a card rndex of them 1n order to know hrmself how many he owns Seated by h1s s1de and watchxng w1th rn terest I see Wanda Reed as rn school days I asked about her and am told that she lS the head Mrstress of a very fashronable g1r1 s school 1n the State of Wrsconsrn She has never marrled but contrnues to assure Howard that she w11l be true to her promrse to be h1s wrfe some day Standrng rn the door lookrng for frlends lsee a trro Irecog mze James Lewrs edrtor of the largest da1ly paper rn the state Except that he has grown a tr1fle stout he has not changed SIHCC h1s school days I see Allene Nash w1th shorthand notebook and pen whrch assures me that she has made good her desue to make a newspaper reporter Our meetmg IS sure to have publrcrty w1th Allene on hand Clarence Evans who 1S very actrve 1n state pO11I1CS lS the th1rd member of the party Two persons enterlng recerve a warm recept1on from the commlttee at the door They are Dr Kenneth McCloskey a famous surgeon rn a large hosprtal and attractrve B1ll1e Marle McDonald superrntendent of nurses rn the same hosp1tal w1th h1m If there are any accrdents tomght we are sure of 1nstant rel1ef w1th Dr Kenneth and nurse Brll1e on hand A round of applause greets the man Just takmg a seat by the w1ndow Ican t tell who he 15 Ah he waves h1s hands around and talks excrtedly Now Iknow who he 15 J1m Wayne Bunger I-Ie IS the weather man It was he who furmshed the splendrd weather for the Home Commg Week and that IS why he was so wrldly applaused Every day he sends out h1s lrttle bulletrns and often the weather rs just as he predrcted lt A woman IS sketchtng the people as they come and dorng rt very well mdeed for lpeep over her shoulder to see It IS Joyce Wr1ght qu1te famous as an 1llustrator of magaztne stones Now the enterta1nment IS to beg1n There IS a hushed expectancy The lrghts rn the aud1tor1um fade and the foothghts flash on Before the packed house a tall d1gn1f1ed f1gure appears who makes an eloquent address of welcome Iremember her now Barbara Campbell She IS a Dallas BUSIHSSS Woman She IS actmg as mls tress of ceremomes She w1ll rntroduce the performers But frrst she calls attentlon to the beaut1fu1 flowers and other decoratrons saymg that they were the grfts of V1rg1n1a Creed and Betty Wagnon now the lead1ng florrst rn a large crty hav1ng made a wonderful reputatron for themselves rn handllng exclusrve flowers The announcer says that after the entertammentrefreshments wrll be served through the courtesy of Ann Norton and Harr1ett Green who are proprletors of a del1ghtful Tea Room rn a nearby town Now the enterta1nment proper begtns There IS gay musrc 11ke c1rcus mus1c Then on the darkened stage 1n the spotllght appears a damty f1gure k1ss1ng her hand to the aud1ence as an attendant arranges a w1re across the stage My goodness' It s Cynthla Garner who always sald she would be a ctrcus dancer She has certamly kept her word for she g1ves a wonderful performance Then appears her dance partner Carrol McDougal who IS as skrlled rn the art of dancrng as she IS The announcer 1n troduces a prosperous lookrng man sayrng he 15 a Broadway song wr1ter and an author of many popular song h1ts It IS Dale Chapman and he plays and smgs for us hrs last composmons very good they are too Next IS a famous cornet player who plays the most beaut1fu1 for us It IS Vera Ruth Rogers The spotlrght rs now shlfted to the or gan and the announcer rntroduces Sue Dav1s now organrst rn a c1ty church She plays beautrfully Now upon the platform strolls Dorrs Thompson w1th a l1ttle book rn her hand She needs no 1ntroduct1on we all recognlze her at once she 15 the author of those delrghtful short storres She reads a story and then gtves a charm1ng ltttle talk tellmg how her frrends 1n the old home town 1nsp1red many of her best storres Then comes to the stage a westerner wrth a IIlCk rope 1n hrs hand dorng many clever trrcks w1th the rope whrch has grven h1m natron wlde publ1c1ty lt IS Brlly Wayne Jordan Now the entertarnment rs over as
