November 21 was the date for the annual FFA Barn Dance. Troy Fowler furnished the music for the dance which was held in the gym. Sally Avrit was crowned queen. These degrees were awarded at the Mother-Daughter Tea in April: Chapter, Junior, and State. The annual tea was held in the spring to show the spring styles made by the home ec classes, and these officers were installed for 1957-58: President Patsy Frakes, Vice President Jackie Jo Dick, Secretary Lorraine Bates, Treasurer Kathleen Hirsch, Historian Pat Mc- Clure, Reporter Judy Lisius, Degree Chairman Helen Wareing, Parliamentar- ian Louise Eberhard, Recreation Chair- man Glenda Mickels. Three banquets were served this year by the FHA girls under the direction of Miss Carolyn Root: basketball, football, and FFA. The FHA girls were guests of the FFA at a spring picnic. Delegates were sent to the district convention in The Dalles and three girls and Miss Root attended the state FHA conclave March 29 and 30. Pat McClure, next year's district secretary, was a special delegate, Patsy Frakes was a candidate for state vice president of pro- jects, and Jackie Jo Dick was the voting chapter delegate. In the fourth quarter Rod Reid's running set up Earl Schult, who battered his way into the end zone. The cats again tried Earl forthe con- version, but Hermiston was waiting and stopped the horse from scoring. With two minutes left in the game, Dave McCrea faked and threw a pass to Bill Hansen who palmed the leather on the three and went over. Schult's kick for the extra point was good. Redmond 24-Prineville 0-There Rod Reid and Larry Smith led scoring for the Panthers. Earl Schult triggered the first TD. Larry Smith then shook loose over the left side and bulled his way into the end zone. He did the same thing again for his second score. Bill Hansen intercepted a pass on the 24 and raced for the final touchdown. Redmond 13-Crater 13-There Dave McCrea passed to Left Half Rod Reid, who cut sharply down field and was over. Schu1t's kick was to the left of the upright. Crater then scored to tie up the ball game. Crater scored again to make it 13-6. With two minutes left to go, Rod Reid scored again, and Earl Schult's try for the extra point was good. Redmond 7-Pendleton 26-There Pendleton's Buckaroos exploded their vaunted offense in a brilliant third quarter rally to come from behind and chalk up 26 points to win over Redmond. The Panthers' only score was from Larry Smith, who drove over his guard for a TD. Schult's kick was between the uprights. Redmond 14-Springfield 21--Here A pass from Dave McCrea to Al Shopshire and another to Rod Reid brought the score to 12-0 in favor of the Panthers. Both Schult's tries for extra points were good, bringing the score at halftime to 14-0. The Panthers were scoreless in the second half. Redmond 14-Madras 0-Here Rod Reid, Proulx's fiery little scatback, capped a third-quarter touchdown thrust with a nine-yard scamper and a few minutes later fielded Dave McCrea's pass and hauled it over for the final score. Earl Schult gilded each score with a perfect PAT kick. Redmond 27-Lakeview 41-There In the second quarter Rod Reid scored on a 44-yard run for a score of 6-14. The second half accounted for three TD's, one by Reid, another by Schult, and one on a pass from McCrea to Shopshire. Schult's three attempts at conversions were good. Redmond 32-Bend 21-Here Rod Reid, halfback, accounted for three Redmond scores. Dave McCrea added another touchdown on an 8-yard romp and teamed with Bill Hansen on a 43-yard pass play for the fifth tally. Two PATs were made. In the second series with Bend one of the lowest scoring games of Panther history was recorded as they defeated the Lava Bears by a score of 19-18. Redmond's Panthers attended the state basketball tournament in Eugene, Oregon, March 13 and 14 where they drew Central Catholic to play for their first game. Redmond lost 59 to 28. Hayward Relays Redmond's cindermen placed second at the Hayward relays April 14, 1956, with 51 points topped only by Cottage Grove's 63 points. Conference Meet Redmond won the Central Oregon Confer- ence meet May 5, 1956. at Bend. The cats marked up 84142 points.
