E, the Senior Class of the Redlands High School, gratefully dedif cate this 1944 year hook to Miss Alma Furman. She has spent many long hours on this book and been patient with all who worked on the Makio. We are proud to give credit to such a gracious person, who has lent help to many troubled students when they most needed it. We therefore take this opportunity to express our thanks to such an all around, grand person as Miss Alma Furman. MISS ALMA FURMAN fr, fwzfefzfx. . . BRANIGAN Qfrfmnz Though we didn't know too much about Mr. Branigan and those in the superintenf dent's ofhce, they figured quite essentially in our school life. They direct the events of the school year, and Mr. Branigan heads the adf ministration staff and is our representative to the school hoard. MISS FARNSWORTH MISS WANOUS MISS GRISAMORE MRS. SILKY alien P MRS WALKER MR. AUNGST One of the most indispensable organizations in school is the ad' ministration staff. In fact, how would we get along without the advice of the counselor and deans, and the friendly help of the girls in the ofhce. The team work on the whole makes this an organization quite indispensable. MISS I-IANLON MR. WOODRUFF U51 MRS. GASTON MISS CARPENTER MRS. BRGWN gdfaiaaf lfbjazmf E. M. Cope, Dr. F. R. Cole, R. C. Each mem' ber spends an average of ten hours each vveek, receives no remuneration, and is on call at any time. :WWA as. . . The show was the presentation of joy Robinson. The dance was a colossal success with all going as Hoboes. The able generalship of Editor Bill Bates mar' shalled the paper quite well, with few reverses. Sophomore success on the gridiron this year was not measured in afterfgame celebraf tions. Seldom did Coach Henrich's wonderful Tiny Tims of the Citrus gridiron have reason to celebrate. However, one could measure the real success of these boys by the way they conducted themselves on the field. In terms of spirit, willingness, and attitude, the Toy Terriers bowed to no one. Iiennch pauerned hm odenmve auack aboutzitncky HTv'fonnadon thatchmnayed more than one opponent. For a while, the general situation parallelled that of this year's luckless football team. However, the Terrier team skyrocketed from its slump into first place in the Citrus Belt League. And the determined Red' lands hoys held that position until well into the sea' son, when a sudden turn of the tables knocked Red' lands out of the Citrus crown. In the first game, the Terriers scored against Rivf erside's favored live, 30 to 17. The following Friday they trounced San Bernardino, 30 to 23. Henrich's original idea of forming the junior Varsity squad was to supplement the varsity outfit with an immediate source of reserve strength. The biggest thrill most of the players got out of Citrus Belt League vvas auxacdng sHvers froni the bench, though they chd see a minimum of action in the early season games. Iiovveven vvhde the varaty outht vvas svveepnag to xdctory on the Citrus courts, the lesser recognized members of the team were transform' ing from ragged sandflot performers into polished veterans. This was largely due to the patient coaching of two marine trainees from the Uni' versity of Redlands, Don MacDowell and Horrell Chauncey. The Junior Varsity frequently practised with the varsity Hve and met some outside opponents. To the reserve squad must go much of the credit for producing the Redlands quintet that so nearly annexed the Citrus crown this year. This insignihcant team provided practice opposition for the first string five and helped in ironing out flaws in the varsity attack, C633 tgahiamaw lgaxiefkzff S-Iplii-111:11 Q lla-l,i-iliall 'I'm':nii Coach Phil Tomhs worked tirelessly with his sophie hasliethall men this year, and there is no douht that the heartfwarming spirit they flaunted in victory as well as defeat will long linger in the hearts of the fans who adf mired their eilorts. lt is true that every game was lost in their Citrus Belt League contests, hut the story of a team is not related in a few final scores. To tell the truth, superior manpower and good hrealcs were lacking f not lighting spirit. Therefore there is every reason to helieve that sophie contributions to the varsity line' up may provide Redlands with a real CBL. threat next year. lj N1 I easily M514 'Hill IIMI1 I I111'wm1iI Track aspects for the 1944 season are particularly heartening at this early stage. In the first opener we lost to Colton by 42 to 41 4f'5 triumph. Redlands then trounced San Bernardino, 55 to 49. The Ter' riers next counted an overwhelming victory over the united opposition of Beaumont, Banning and Palm Springs High Schools. The score was: Redlands 78V2g Palm Springs 33, Banning 10, and Beaumont, SVZ. Those on the team are: Bob jackson and Doler Bef vis, 440 dash and 100 yard sprintg Bob Harwood, veteran from last year's among the stars. The Redlands first year men lost to San Bernardino and Beaumont in prefseason tests. However, vital cogs in the sophie machine were sacrificed to the varsity team in order to fill up the weaknesses in the senior linefup. Without a murmur, the goodfnatured Toy Terriers attempted to patch up these yawning holes in time for the C.B.L. finals. The Terriers were well balanced in every respect-their record certainly proves that. Colton fell to the Crange City team on three different occasions, Palm Springs offered little com' petition to the Terriers and Riverside toppled to Redlands in the C. B. L. opener, 6f3. Vcndergoot and Whaley, Huma and jones, rep' resented their team's principal strength by taking most of the doubles matches this season. Captain Bobb Peters, Marvin Boring, and others contributf ed points by winning singles matches. Coach Del Henrich steered his netfmen to well' deserved glory in nearly every meet. The swimming team always seems to brighten up even the most sombre of Red' lands' pictures. This year, the sensational Terriers sailed through early season compef tition with ease and, at this writing, there appears to be no high school team in sight ca' pable of defeating the Redlands boys. Coach Ray Crane, U. of R. trainee, quickly whipped his Terrier men into shape. Redlands humbled Riverside 50 to 30 and Black Fox Militzlry Academy 41 to 34. ,lunior Amodt, the best stroke specialist in Redlands history and Roger Woodroxv, another boy who may crack the Citrus Belt League mark, are among the team members this year. u ,H if Ron l--ll. lNlnml'e, Kurtis, ll.
