Seniors Today, as never before, the liberty which is the very base of all our lives is faced with its greatest peril. During our history we can find only one parallel to this situation, the bitter days of the Civil War Years, 1861-1863. Then Lincoln, the Kentucky-born plowboy whom liberty gave the op- portunity to become our most beloved president, was fighting to free all the peoples of our country, just as today we are fighting to free the peoples of all countries. There is poetic justice in the fact that liberty was saved by a man she alone was able to create. His trials could not be appreciated by any other generation so well as our own. We are feeling, just as he did, some measure of uncertainty, but we feel too the love of liberty and the faith in it which convinced Abraham Lincoln that from the sorrows of his country would grow a greater nation, just as we are convinced that out of our troubles will come a better world.
