Pilot Officer William F. Reilly, '38, was killed December 4, 1942, in an aircraft accident while serving with the Royal Air Force. Pilot Reilly, who had 75 hours flying with the U. S. Army Air Corps, joined the R. A. F. in November, 1941, and after taking preliminary training at Bakersfield, Cali- fornia, went to Canada. He went overseas April 12, 1941. Lt. Iohn R. Taylor, '36, Army Air Force Pilot, was killed in action over Tobruk luly 13, 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and was sent overseas in May, 1942. Lt. Leonard Rosenblum, '38, was killed in action in France August 13, 1944. He entered the army in October, 1941, and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Camp Wheeler, Oklahoma. He went overseas in December, 1943. Pvt. William Santore, '46, was killed in action on Okinawa May 11, 1945. He trained at Camp Fannin, Texas. Lt. Alfred Scali, '39, was killed in action while serving with the in- fantry in Germany. Marine Pfc. Russell A. Schlenker, '41, was killed in action in 1944 while serving with the Fourth Marine Division on Saipan. Pfc. Edward lohn Schragel, '41, was killed November 15, 1944, while serving with the Third Army near Metz, France. He enlisted October 26, 1942, and trained in a tank division at Fort Knox, Kentucky: Fort Lewis, Washington, and in Iowa to learn Russian. He was transferred to the infantry and went overseas in September, 1944, from Camp Phillips, Kansas. Tolbert I. Steeves, '30, with the U. S. Naval Reserves Seabees in San Diego, California, died after a kidney operation in February, 1945. He enlisted in the Seabees in September, 1942, and spent 19 months in the Pacific. He was stricken with a kidney ailment, hospitalized, and was brought back to this country in November, 1944. Staff Sgt. William A. Toupin, '39, was killed in action in Africa December 24, 1942. Pvt. Vasile Ugran, '44, was killed in action February 27, 1945, at Cologne. He entered the service August 8, 1944, and trained at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He went overseas Ianuary 17, 1945, as a machine gunner with the First Division of the First Army. Cadet Robert Van Cure, '38, was killed at sea in 1943. He enlisted in the Merchant Marine in lune, 1942, and received his training at Merchant Marine School at Great Nich, New York. Lt. Ioseph I. Volk, '37, was killed in action in Bouganville March 26, 1944, while serving with an infantry unit in Ohio's 37th Division. He was inducted Ianuary 30, 1943, and trained at Camp Shelby, Mississippi: Indian- town Gap, Pennsylvania, and in California. He went overseas in May, 1942. Marine Cpl. Nelson D. Williams, '43, was killed in action March 12, 1945, on Iwo lima. He enlisted in the Marines and trained at San Diego and Camp Pendleton, California. Lt. loseph I. Phillips, '37, died in induction camp at Fort Dix, February, 1942. Pvt. Richard Lyman died in Officer's Training Camp, September 16, 1942. Lt. David Yaus '40, was killed in action over Germany September ll, 1944. Li. U-43.1 lohn Bierkamp, '38, was lost at sea in the invasion of Normandy lune 6, 1944. TX4 Marvin I. Katz, '43, was killed in Belgium, Ianuary 4, 1944. He was inducted in May, 1943, and went overseas in September, 1944. He was a radio technician in a field artillery unit. He trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Camps Bowie, and Masey, Texas. Sgt. William Thomas Kennedy, '36, was killed August 18, 1944, on his 38th mission while returning to his base in Sicily. He was with the 15th Air Force. Cpl. Matthew Kunovic, '40, died of a wound in the head at Le Havre, France, April 25, 1945. Pvt. Robert W. Landis, '38, was killed in a cross fire of Iapanese machine guns in the North Burma Iungles, February 25, 1944. He was the first American combat infantryman to die in battle on the Burma front. Pfc. Ralph Lazazzera, '37, was killed in action Iuly 28, 1943, in the Southwest Pacific. He was drafted May 19, 1942, and served in the infantry with the 43rd Division. He trained at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and Fort Ord, California, and went overseas in October, 1942. Sgt. William H. Lowery, '30, radio operator and aerial gunner on a bomber, was killed in action on April 24, 1944. He entered the service in 1943 and trained at Seymour-lohnson, Washington: Moses Lake Field, North Carolina: and Hunter Field, Florida, before going overseas in March. Second Lt. Mario A. Mastrangeli, '43, was killed in a plane crash at Punela Gorda, Florida. Pfc. Patrick lohn Monroe, '32, was killed in action in the Southwest Pacific area Iuly 16, 1943. He joined the armed forces in May, 1942, and was sent overseas several months later. TfSgt. Robert I. Morrison, '42, a radio operator on a B-17 bomber, was killed near Magdeburg, Germany, while on a mission over Berlin. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces in November, 1942, and trained at Kingman, Arizona: Kearney, Nebraska: Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Ardmore, Oklahoma. Staff. Sgt. Robert A. McFadden, '41, was killed in action over Germany December 19, 1943. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps October 29, 1942, and received training at Lowry Field, Coloradop Kingman, Arizona, and Pocatello, Idaho. He went overseas Iuly 6, 1943. Pfc. William I. McGuire, '42, died of serious wounds received while fighting in Holland on September 20, 1944. He entered service March 1, 1943, and trained at Camp Rucker, Alabama: Fort Benning, Georgia: Camp Mackall, North Carolina, and Fort Meade, Maryland. Pvt. Kenneth Novy, '42, was killed in action in France on Iuly 12, 1944. He entered the service on October 25, 1943, and trained at Camp Wheeler, Georgia. He was sent overseas in March, 1944, and was in Ireland before participating in the Invasion of Europe. Corp. T!5 Stephen F. Olenik, '40, lost his life in action December 1, 1944, in Holland. He was serving in the laundry division of the quarterrnaster corps. He entered the army February 8, 1943, and left for overseas after training at Vancouver, Washington, and Camp Adair, Oregon. Pvt. William Iarvis accidently drowned in Lincoln Park pool, Youngstown, while on furlough, Iuly, 1944. Lt. Leonard Flask, '27, Commando Division, died at Camp Walters in Texas Ianuary, 1943. Pvt. Kenneth leffries, '42, was killed in a bomber crash near Council Bluffs, Iowa, in December, 1943. Capt. Wm. Webber Watson, '38, pilot of B-29 lost over Pacific Ocean April 16, 1945. . Charles Turner, '43, killed in European area April, 1945. Staff Sgt. lohn Scarpini, '38, enlisted Iune 2, 1941, in the Army Air Corps. He was planning to enter training as a pilot and submitted to an operation to correct his vision in December, 1943. A second operation in Ianuary, 1946, resulted in his death. Staff Sgt. Theodore Regenstreich, '30, of the 118th Signal and Radio Bn. died December 24, 1943, in a hospital at Camp Perry. He enlisted in April, 1942. Steve Kowach, '42, aviation machinists mate, third class, who has been missing in action in the Pacific since April 1, 1945, has received a gold star in place of a second air medal. The award was made for the Navy man's services as a combat aircrewsman in Patrol Bombing Squadron No. 20. During a night attack April 1, the squad inflicted heavy damage on a large Iapanese ship. Kowach was lost on the mission. FORMER STUDENTS Pfc. William Barile, X-'30, was killed May 10, 1945, in the Pacific area. He was inducted in Iuly, 1944, and trained at Camp Fannin, Texas. He left for overseas in December, 1944. Pfc. Russell Davis Blank, Ir., X-'38, was killed in action Ianuary 27, 1945, in France. He was inducted into service April 15, 1941, and trained at Camp Fannin, Texas. He left for overseas service from Fort Meade, Maryland, in October. Cpl. Desmond Burrows, X-'40, was killed in action in France, August 26, 1944. He entered the service in February, 1942, and trained at Pine Camp, New Ierseyz Fort Knox, Kentucky, and in California. He was sent overseas in November, 1943. Lt. William Dabelow, X-'36, was killed in action over Roumania, August 19, 1944. He entered the service and was commissioned in May, 1943, and received advanced training at Hondo, Texas, and Tampa, Florida, before going overseas in March, 1944. Pvt. Henry De Ramo, X-'42, radio operator in a ninth Army Tank Division, was killed in battle February 26, 1945, in Germany. He entered the service in April, 1943, trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Shreveport, Louisiana, and went overseas in February, 1944. SfSgt. Edward A. Dobran, X-'43, was a member of a Liberator bomber crew who lost their lives on August 15, 1944. He joined the air force in April, 1943, and trained at an air base at Harlingen, Texas, before being sent overseas. Sgt. William F. Fair, X-27, met death in action April 24, 1944, in Germany. He was serving with the 234th Bomb Disposal Company. He entered service on April 15, 1942, and trained at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and went abroad October 19, 1943.
