Calling Car Number 591 Calling Car Number 59! Be on the lookout for 69 young green horn freshmen last seen headed for the RHS campus. Take caution! They are armed and are dangerous. Yes, we were armed, with well sharpened pencils, bright new text books, and plenty of answers for the teachers. We started our first year of high school amidst confusion, but we soon became familiar with our surroundings. We are very proud of our freshman year at RHS. Jean Ann Suck and Doris Jean Suck were majorettes of the senior high band and Sue Somerville was elected Varsity Cheerleader. Joyce McDermott was elected Polio Queen. Sue Somerville won the conservation essay contest and a trip to camp Ceasar. We had for our class sponsors, Mr. Hupp and Mrs. Denning and two new classmates, Vickie Johnson and Smokey Wilson. Returning to our sophomore year at RHS we accepted our new status with pride and distinction. Now we started joining various clubs and taking our natural role as center-stage in school. Pat White and June Suck were selected as majorettes and Joyce McDermott was selected as cheerleader. Becky Fox won the local Voice of Democracy Contest and the Oratorial Division of the Forensic. Jean Ann Suck won the Reading Division of the Forensic. Three letters were awarded to three of our sophomore boys, Smokey Wilson and Joe McCoy for football and Martin Hartley for basketball. To join us in our activities this year were our five new classmates, Ken McDole, Sondra McGavran, Judy Amos, Cindy Champ, and Mary Sawyers. Our class sponsors were Mr. Fisher, Mrs. Jarrett and Mrs, Polk. In 1957 we received our class rings, a year before graduation, as is the tradition of RHS. Serving us as class officers that year were Martin Hartley, President, Joyce McDermott, vice -president, Barbara Fox, secretary, Dane Hannum, treasurer, and Letha Jackson, historian. We staged our three-act comedy play, Finders Creepers which was a huge success, thanks to our sponsor-director Mr. Sullivan and the cast, Stephen Seaman, John Weekley, Diane Chambers, Sue Somerville, Pat White, Dane Hannum, Martin Hartley, Judy Amos, Ken McDole, Becky Fox, Janet Carmichael, Betty Bourgeois, Joe McCoy, our Student Directors Joyce McDermott and Smokey Wilson and all the other committees. We were represented by Betty Bourgeois and David Norman on Know Your State Government Day. Our representatives to Girls' State were: Irene Tregoning, Becky Fox, and Betty Bourgeois. Representing the boys in Boys' State were: James Noll and David Norman. Stephen Sea- man won the local Voice of Democracy Contest. Pat White won second place in the State American Legion Contest. Jean Ann Suck and Ken McDole won the local Forensic Contest. Betty Bourgeois won the state Knights of Pythias Speaking Contest. Football letters were awarded to Dane Hannum and James Bever. Our Junior, Senior Prom was a big success, thanks to the co-operation of our class and class sponsors. We chose as our theme April Romance. This year we added to our class role, Vida Hardt, Darrel Withrow, Irene Tregoning and Gerry Owens. Our senior year found many of us busy leaders of the student body. Becky Fox held the position as President of Student Council with Judy Amos, Pat' White, and Willard Merical homeroom representatives. During both junior and senior years Jean Suck was Drum Majorette, and Joyce McDermott was head cheerleader. Class officers were: Irene Tregoning, President, David Norman vice-president, Barbara Fox, secretary, Helen Sulli- Van, treasurer, and Mary Sawyer, historian. Joyce McDermott and Martin Hartley were crowned Mr. and Mrs. Red Devil. Jean Ann Suck, Vickie John- son, Barbara Fox and Eleanor Sayre were Homecoming Princesses and Larry Barker, Gerry Milhoan, Ken McDole, David Norman, and Stephen Seaman were princes. We presented our senior class play My Little Oscar with Stephan Seaman, John Weekley, Sue Somerville, Carolyn Heasley, Ken McDole, June Suck, Pat White, Martin Hartley, Judy Amos, Vickie Johnson, Irene Tregoning, Vida Hardt, Sondra McGavran, James Noll, and Betty Bourgeois as the cast and Mrs. Jarrett as our director. Joyce McDermott and Betty Bourgeois were Co-Editors of the Nautilus and Becky Fox and Eleanor Sayre were selected as Co-Editors of the School Spirit. Carolyn Estep joined us for our final year at RHS and Joe McCoy made the All-State second team with Smokey Wilson getting honorable mention. Now we face the future. We are confronting a complex world, but whatever may come we realize that we have taken one big step in the right direction. 17
