Football Season I 957 fl The Red Devils of Ravenswood finished a very successful season with pa 9 won, 1 defeat record. Under the capable di- rection of coaches, Jim Spano and Joe Bokovitz, the team won the first State Championship ever to come to Ravenswood and also placed 2nd in L.K.C. play. Opening the season on the home field, the Devils wal- loped Wahama by the score of 31-0. Kelly, McCoy, Fox, and Stephenson lead the scoring. Next the Spencer Yellow Jackets traveled to Flinn Field only to taste defeat 26-0. Knapp, Fox, and Cather lead the attack. The Devils, going on the road for the first time, traveled to East Bank High where they met and defeated Cedar Grove by the score of 27-13. Mason and Kelly scored twice. Returning to Flinn Field, the Devils defeated the Sister- ville Tigers 33-13. Kelly and Fox scored twice and Mason added one T, D, The R,l-l.S. Homecoming was very successful as the Red Devils defeated previously unbeaten Pennsboro 24-0. Fox, Mason, and Buffington lead the offense while Patterson lead the defense. Ravenswood won the sixth game by dropping Wirt 20-0. Mason, Kelly, and Cather did the scoring. The Grantsville game was postponed because of the flu epidemic. Ravenswood traveled to Buffalo and defeated them 47-13. The whold backfield worked nicely while the defense was lead by Cather and Patterson. The Red Devils tasted defeat for the first time as an in- spired Ripley team handed them a 19-13 upset. The next game was one that will long be remembered for the first time in the history of our school. The Red Devils participated in a State Championship game, Ravenswood vs. Rupert. The final score was Ravenswood 34, Rupert 13. Mason and Cather scored twice while Kelly scored once. 38
