Myers, Principal PrincipaI's Message Another school year will soon be history. To the Seniors it means the end of a golden era. Your four years of high school spans a period of time to be remembered as the happiest days of your life. It covers a period of time when adolescents are facing their most perplexing problems. It is the age when you are too old to be children and too young to be adults. During the past four years you have been trying to shed the characteristics of childhood and acquire and assume the traits common to adults. This growing up period has brought you many excit- ing experiences, conflicting emotions, disappoint- ments, and periods of frustration. But through it all you emerge a better individual. It has been a great pleasure and privilege IO work with you during this difficult periodg to help you find your interests and aptitudes, to help you plan your school work so as to equip you to better prepare for your future career. It has not been all class workg it has also been a time of getting acquainted with oneselfand finding the niche in which each can make his greatest contribution to society and be happy in the work. 3 Mrs. Ardith Chambers, Secretary 1 JAMES SPANO A.B. , Morris Harvey Physical Education WILLIS D. On May 16, 1958 at 8:00 o'clock, it happened. From the hallowed halls of Ravenswood High School came forth the most surprising, unpredictable class this school has ever known. At last September came, and Ravenswood High School opened its doors to fifty -eight green freshmen. Much to the teachers' dismay, the halls were kept in an uproar by our excitement, but we soon settled into routine. We elected Rae Cox, presidentg Darry Fox, vice-president, Jim Divers, treasurer, and Norma Shockey, secretary. Jane Miller won the local Forensic Con- test and competed with Parkersburg. Miss Gillaspie and Mr. Louke were our sponsors. Our sophomore year we elected Ronald Morgan, president, Carrington Cox, vice -president, Everett Moss, secretary, and Troy Rhodes, treasurer. Having become acquainted with the teachers and students, we began to join clubs and ac- tivities. Again Jane Miller competed in the state Forensic finals held at Morgantown. After a short three-month vacation, we came back as juniors ready to take over some of the responsibility. We elected Darry Fox, president, Jim Divers, vice-president, Ken Kelly, secretary, and Carol Ferguson, treasurer. Under the guidance of Miss Gillaspie, Mrs. Elizabeth Knotts, and Mr. Cox, our Junior-Senior banquet was a huge success. The theme was Hitch Your Wagon to a Star. Jeanne Morrow, Rae Cox, Ardean Lindley, and Sandra Smith were elected to Girls' State and Darry Fox was elected to Boys' State. We came back in the fall of 1957 ready to take up our responsibilities as seniors. Fourteen of our senior boys participated in one of the greatest football teams ever to come out of Ravens- wood High School. The Class B Champs. Ken Kelly, Darry Fox, and Ronnie Proudfoot were co-captains. Our class officers were Faye Safreed, president, Ronald Patterson, vice-president, Bill McKinley, secretary, and Ken Kelly, treasurer. Ronnie Proudfoot was elected president of Student Council. Ardean Lindley was crowned Miss Red Devil and Jim Divers, Mr. Red Devil. Our sponsors were Mrs. Olive Mason, Miss Lettie Gillaspie, and Mr. Gay Cox. We are now ready to face the future. Since coming to Ravenswood High School as Head Coach in the fall of 1954, Coach Spano and his proteges have brought home a most impressive display of trophies. They are: 1955--Sectional Basketball Champs 1955--Regional Basketball Champs 1956--Sectional Basketball Champs 1956--Regional Basketball Runner-Up 1956--Southern Divisional Basketball Champs in LK 1957--Sectional Basketball Champs 1957--State Football Champs 1958--Sectional Basketball Champs As Coach stood surveying his collection day, he re- marked, I see much more than those trophies standing there. I see a bunch of good boys. For further confirmation of his coaching ability, he was the first high school coach selected to coach a Southern L. K. Football team. That was the 1957 team and he will be coaching it again this fall, 1958. Coach Spano has been fortunate in having compati- ble, congenial, capable Joe Bokovitz work with him as assistant coach since 1955. Bokey takes care of the line in football, 9th grade basketball, and is Head Coach in Baseball. Coaches, whatever the future holds for you, may it parallel or surpass your successful record to-date.
