YOUTH I am youth. I am young America Grasping hold, trying To bring myself up to The level of my forbears. I am learning. I am learning young The meaning of life. For I have seen death In reality with life. I am gay. I am being gay Because I am young And pretend not to know Of the weariness of the world. I am wondering. I am wondering as to My future in this Weary, war-torn world Of the kingdom of man. I am looking. l am looking ahead To a future that reveals In the splendor of man's Peace of mind and heart. Yes, I am youth. A youth that knows Of past wrongs But is looking ahead, Trying to build a better world. Eunice Boyles. THE APRIL FOOL On April Fool's day I had such fun My geenius shone forth lik th sun. I put a tak on mi naybor's seet, He must hav jumped at least ten feet I told my pal his test ansers wer rong, He worried about it all day long. I switshed salt for sugar and sugar for salt My mother thot her cooking at falt. But when I tryed to giv a hot foot to my big brother, joe, He caught on, then caught me, and therefore, I felt full of woe. On Aprl Fool's Day I hnd, The biggest fool is truly thine. Ray Diator fPat McCardell GIVE US A CHANCE The sins of the world are mighty indeed The problems are weighty, all men are agreedg Politics, government, war, and peace- To hnd a solution that conflict might cease Men graying at temples and racing for time Have valiantly, fruitlessly striven and pined. But why must experience and realism rule? Idealism of youth is a far better tool. But some statesmen scoff at youth's ideals, For youth is too young to know how it feels To be laughed at and scorned by men of the world Whose selhsh schemes stifle peace and the Word. Proud youth is undaunted, fears no man's dare: He'll tackle the problems with optimist's Hare. Be they perilous, onerous, adventuresome, right With strength of youth's body he'll Hght a good tight. Let youth prove his logic and realize his dreams: Though the cynics jest loudly, to me it still seems That unreal though it be, youth's reason is good. And man would believe it if only he could.
