Y I live with my parents in a suburb of Hannover, which is a city a little bit bigger than Milwaukee, in the northwestern part of Germany. We are a small but happy family. My father teaches people who want to be engineers for welding and machine construction, loves nature and likes politics and philosophy. My mother is very sociable and, as a housewife, she never liked the big noises I made in the house when I was little. I still don't know much more about cooking than how to make scrambled eggs. The school-system in Germany is very different. We have to go to a Gymnasium for 13 years before we can go to University, to go to school on Saturday, to take 12-13 subjects every year and 2-3 foreign languages besides German. fl took English, French and Latinj. An English test in Germany, for instance, lasts 6 hours. I belong to a dancing club where we meet twice a week and dance Latin-American dances, Tango, Foxtrott, etc. , a philosophy club, a political literature discussion club, and a club where we spend time with youth convicts who are in a prison. We do a lot of bicycling, swimming, track and are used to a lot of walking. I was often very amused about how many Americans picture a German: a from morning-to-night beer drinking and sauerkraut eating fellow who drives a Volkswagen and dances polkas. If one would ask me now, looking back to the past year, whether I would have rather stayed in Germany instead of being here in America for this year, I would say No very loudly. Besides all the nice things I got to know about you and your country here, there are many little things i experienced about my self and my weak-points, and I know now that I still have to improve myself a lot. I don't feel as if it's enough just to say Thank you for everything, but you can be sure I'll never forget you.
