A treat of a teacher whose unfailing dedication to school and student is an inspiration for all. What more can one say? Devoting 50 years of her life to the teaching profession says it all. I'm grateful I had the opportunity to be a colleague and a friend. James Flesser Mrs. Tina H. Childs With love and appreciation the 1987 Ram’s Horn Staff dedicates this yearbook to Mrs. Tina Childs. It is impossible to estimate the value of her many years of service to others. She has exemplified Ramsay spirit, pride, and honor, and encouraged others to continue in the Ramsay tradition. Her concern has been expressed in advice and help to students and faculty members. The rewards of retirement have been earned by her years of service, but this does not mean she will not be missed. The Ram’s Horn Staff 1987 I feel very honored that I had the privilege to be Mrs. Childs’ last principal, as she concludes 50 years in public education. She is a legend at Ramsay and will never be replaced. It would not be possible to list all her contributions that helped make Ramsay a better school, or the number of young adults she helped become better citizens. I wish her well as she begins her retirement, and I hope she will continue to visit and be a consultant for her school. For although Mrs. Childs is retiring, she will always be a Ramsay staff member. She will have a life membership pass to all future Ramsay functions. Mr. Ralph B. Sheetz Principal, 1984- Teacher, counselor, advisor, and administrator, which and how many superlatives do you use to measure the positive influence she has exerted on the lives of the thousands of students who have benefitted from their association with her? A good friend, confidante, and colleague, tested and proven under fire — a person constantly striving for excellence and with little patience or sympathy with mediocrity. I guess she can best be understood by the following message; “If it’s worth doing, let’s do it — then let's do it better.” A special honor for a special person who has made us all proud of our association with her and Ramsay Alternative High School. Hurry, Tina —Jim and I are waiting! For many years Ms. Tina Hyman Childs has held a place of esteem and affection in the hearts of Ramsay students. She is recognized as a woman of character, strong principles, conscientious, and devoted to her chosen profession. Because of her wisdom and good will, numbers of students have turned to her for advice, assistance, and guidance. She will be missed but her memory will linger long. I wish for you many happy days ahead as you begin your retirement. May God be your constant companion and provide for you that which you so richly deserve. Dr. Larry J. I am very proud to be a pan of the Ramsay tradition. We arc truly one of the finest examples on an Open Community in our city. Ramsay provides the opportunity for intelligent students from throughout the city to meet, work together, and form lasting friendships. I am indebted for the contributions from the class of 1987. These three years have been both profitable and enjoyable. I trust that you will use the knowledge and skills obtained at Ramsay to make our society both better and safer. Good luck always, and remember your Alma Mater. To the underclassmen, there is still much to be done. CLASS OF ’87 SENIOR CREDITS 127 ALMA MATER On the city’s southern border ds the school we love; carts aglow and voices raising Send her praise above. Hail to thee, our Alma Mater, Long we’ll love thee, Ramsay High School And be true to thee. THE RAMSAY PEP SONG Oh when those Ramsay Rams all fall in line, We're going to win that game another time: And for the dear old school we love so well, We’re going to yell and yell and yell and yell. We’re going to fight, fight, fight, for every score. We’re going to win those games and then some more, then Some more, Roll old — on the floor, on the floor. Roll, roll, roll! Stand up and cheer, stand up and cheer. Stand up and cheer for the fame of Ramsay; For today we raise the blue and white above the rest. Above the rest. Our boys arc fighting and we are sure to win the fray. We’ve got the team, rah! rah! For this is dear old Ramsay’s day. SENIORS 129 Gena R. Abrasley Antoine M. Andrews Sonja Y. Beachcm Gregory D. PROM CLASS OF’87 173 This page is donated by Mrs. Sellers. “Thanks to a fantastic student body, faculty, and yearbook staff.” 174 •autographs FROM THE EDITOR .. . I don't think anyone realizes how much hard work goes into creating a yearbook unless you've actually done it. This yearbook was absolutely no exception, but I really shouldn't complain, it could have been a disaster. When this year began, we had only three yearbook members who had experience: Carol McChcsney, and April Sims (who unfortunately could not take yearbook second semester), and me. I didn't know what we were going to do. but these unexperienced staff members soon showed me how wrong I was to be worried. From the first day to the last they continually surprised me with how well they could create a yearbook, as well as, draw quad-paks. crop pictures, sell yearbooks, sell ads, organize the books, do slide shows, and hundreds of other things. 1 am truly proud to have been able to work with all of you. I could not finish this book without taking a few of these outstanding people personally. Diana — Thanks for all of your hard work, help, and staying after school when you had to. Most of all. thanks for reminding me about the “dummies so I wouldn’t mail them to Dallas. Good luck next year!! Patreana (Treana) — Thanks for your great typing and writing. Also. I'm glad you finally drew a quad-pak. Lori — I could have never got those first pages off without you. THANKS! Also thanks for being my best friend and not letting yearbook ruin that friendship. You are just like a sister to me! I love you! Camille — Although you couldn’t take the class you did a lot of drawings for us and I thank you for them! Melanie, Carol. George — Thanks for being “superman when it came to quad-pak redrawing, also thanks for getting my Pepsi when I needed it Juanell and Amanda — Thanks for all of your hard work and taking all those quad-paks home with you. Also, thanks for getting it done on time. Aim. Leah, and Shelly — Thanks for taking over the senior stats. I know it was a lough job. That and Benedict — Thanks for getting the drawing done on time and so well. Lance — Thanks for all the pictures!!! Wc couldn't have done it without you Woody and Tracy — Thanks for being the yearbook gophers. I'd like to take this time to thank my parents for all their help, understanding, and love. I Love You!!! Also I’d like to especially thank Mrs. Sellers for her help, humor, and guts to take over the yearbook as the advisor. Good Luck next year! I would like to thank Gregg Kendrick. (my boyfriend for the past three years). You've put up with all my depressions over the yearbook and all my angers, through it all you only complained a few times. For all your love, support, help, and understanding, I thank you and I LOVE YOU!!! Finally, I'd like to thank God whose strength I have used throughout making this book as well as my life. In closing, I have come to realize that this is no longer my book or my stafTs book, but your book. I hope you will treasure it as much as we have. Daphne R. We didn't play well in the match we lost, said the coach 'There were a few animosities among the players They did draw together and played as a team in the finals, she said. Miss Fiorella said they decided to put those animosities aside because they knew that they had to play as a team to win. Ramsay played Bradshaw at least twice during the regular season, according to the coach, r won both times Coach Willie Scoggins has three freshmen among his top players — James Slaughter.
