RAM'S REPORT Ramsay this year, as always, upheld her high standards in all fields. Ramsay’s honors were many, her failures were few, and her achievements were great. A summary of 1954-55 will show you why this school in the Southsidc will always be tops with all Ramsay students. Milton Smith served as president of the student body for the fall semester. Margaret Robinson, Vice President, and Jim Donahoo, Secretary, were the other student body officers. Serving in the cabinet with these officers were Burton Koplon, Dotty Becton, Charlotte Patterson, Nancy Lou Avara, Jessie McDowell, Peggy Armstrong, Gerald Stroud, Gail Patterson, Irwin Bomshell, Tom Bradford, Phil Lavallet, Charles Colvin and Tommy Crawford. The projects undertaken by the cabinet under Milton's excellent leadership were numerous, and the student body was greatly benefited by each. The officers of the council for the fall semester were Charles Colvin, Chairman; Ross Hutton, Vice Chairman; and Emory O'Shee, Secretary. Annette Moss served as chairman of the council for the spring semester. Assisting her were Mildred Mullins, Vice President and Edward Allen. Secretary. Once again this year the council proved to be of great value to Ramsay. As president of the student body for the spring semester Margaret Robinson was assisted by Mousa Shunnarah, Vice President and John Bradford, Secretary. The other members of the cabinet were Peggy Armstrong, Irwin Bomshell, Barbara Haas, Bennie Auxer, Helen Hayden, Dotty Becton, Gail Brittain, Marvin Epstein, Carolyn Portis, Annette Moss, Jim Donahoo, Jessie McDowell and Tommy Crawford. Under Margaret’s outstanding leadership the cabinet presented many new ideas and carried out each of its delegated duties. Our vocal department ended another outstanding year. In December they presented a Christmas Concert. Also the vocal department was rated superior in the district contest. The honor and responsibility of the marshal force was once again upheld. Phil Lavallet served as Chief. Tommy Crawford as Assistant Chief and Margaret Robinson as Secretary for the fall semester. Heading the marshal force for the spring semester were Jim Donahoo, Chief; Jessie McDowell, Assistant Chief; and Sallie Hamill, Secretary. In the fall the National Honor Society tapped ten new members and Ri Greene received the Freshman Book Award. The Honor Society remains as an ideal to be striven for by each student and stands as the highest achievement a student can make. The annual R Day Dance was held in the fall honoring the football boys. Peggy Armstrong was elected Queen and Gail Brittain, Amy Sue Moss and Jane Scott were elected Junior, Sophomore and Freshman attendants respectively. To climax Courtesy Week a courtesy dance was held. Annette Moss and Joe Millazzo were crowned Queen and King Courtesy. Donald Layton and Lynn Hewes were the Junior Attendants. Representing the Sophomore class were Sam Drash and Jane Wood. The Freshman class elected Mike Scott and Sherry Brewster. At the Lions Club’s Harvest Ball Norma De Loach was crowned Miss Five Points. Joan Mathews was the chosen alternate by the judges. Emory O’Shee was elected by the Highlander subscribers as Miss Highlander. Representing Ramsay on the ninth annual Laurie Battle Citizenship Tour was Evelyn Gabbard, our Good Citizen. Ramsay was awarded a Latin trophy by the Auxilium Latinum magazine for outstanding work in Latin over a period of three years. At the fair last fall, Ramsay won many awards. Our booth won first place in competition with the county high school booth, every department contributing. And now that the time has come to close our Ram's Report for 1954-55, we proudly turn the spotlight on the girls' physical education classes. When their act is done the staff wishes to thank each one for the pan he has played in making this a successful and happy year for Ramsay. ALMA MATER On the city’s southern border, stands the school we love. Hearts a-glow and voices raise we send her praise above. Hail to thee our Ainu Mater, faithful we will be. Long we'll love thee, Ramsay High School, and be true to thee.
