R. (SWEDE) LAWSON 8 Team Coach The 1951 football season was a fine one for the Ramsay team. The Rams won nine games while losing only one. This one was a thriller with Bossomer scoring the only touchdown of the game in the last two minutes of play. The Rams were 1951 city champs, winning all city games and the Crippled Children's Clinic game on Thanksgiving Day. The Rams amassed the most points toward winning Tho Birmingham News Stale Championship Trophy, but Bessemer, having defeated the Rams, won It instead. Billy Whitten, fullback, was high scorer of the city with 66 points. He was also selected All-City, All-State and All-Southern. Robert Jamison, alternate captain was selected All-City, All-State, and Best lineman in Jefferson County. Ends, Don Denman, and Dan Coyle, were first string All-City selections. Captain Jimmy Eubanks and tackle, Fred Sington, were on the first string All-City team. Ray Vaughn, guard, and Jim Lindsay, back, were selected for tho All-City second team.
