ON To you, our parents, who have so generously given us moral guidance and unceas- ing encouragement, we are especially grateful. It is now our responsibility to show our gratitude by building successful adult lives on the firm foundations you have provided. To express our humble gratitude in some small measure, we, the staff of the 1959 Orbit, on behalf of the Senior Class of Queensbury High School, wish to dedicate our yearbook to you, our beloved parents. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE In September of 1953, you, the members of the Class of 1959, entered Queensbury High School. At that time your senior year leading to graduation must have seemed a long way off in a distant future. Now, as you look back over the events of the past six years, those years seem like brief, swiftly moving intervals of time. During those years, the adult mem- bers of the Queensbury School District have provided a continually improving quality of ed- ucation. They feel a sense of pride as you prepare to leave our school. May you ever re- flect credit upon your school and your community in the years that lie ahead. During the time you have spent here at Queensbury high, you may not have been aware of two significant happenings. As you increased in learning and participated in various other activities, you were leaving a small portion of yourself here at Queensbury. The sum total of what you left has made Queensbury different because you were here. Likewise, as you leave Queensbury High, you will take with you a small portion of our school. May it prove its value as you go forth to lives of service to your fellow man and of satisfaction to your- selves. Robert B. Patch High School Principal BOARD OF EDUCATION JOSEPH M. The team had a 12-6 over- all record and a 7-3 card in league competition. Coach Hughes felt that with a few breaks in key games the team could have gone on to higher laurels. The team's first competition in basketball sectionals occured this year when the Queensbury players represented the Adiron- dack League in the Class D Sectionals. The boys were quite excited over this honor and practiced hard to prepare for it. JERRY GORDIE COACH HUGHES CARL Nice going, GORDIE I Two for MURPH! BASKETBALL ACTION SHOTS Nice drive, BOB! SENIOR CLASS ADVISORS SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Class meetings — dances — Yearbook Club — candy sales — ad gathering — and our trip. There was a lot of work to be done, and we did it (with a little prodding). A fun-filled year and a year in which the girls took over - Linda Gray as president, Judith Funicelle as vice-president, Hilda Dingmon as recording secretary, Constance Jones as corresponding secretary, Toby Gilman as treasurer. Naturally the boys didn’t mind, not really - they could always blame it on the girls. Through the months we worked together to make our last year our happiest and most successful. Though we would like to take all the credit, we must be honest. A tremendous -THANKS-to our advisors, Miss Behan and Mr. Canale. It is quite appropriate because our class has tried to derive many benefits from school. We are thinking not only of scholastic benefits, but also of numerous extracurricular and out-of-school activities which have taken form in our high school years. These moments are forever gone and cannot be relived except in our minds and hearts. We desire to record these events in this summary of the history of the Class of 1959. We began as pea-green Our first year in high school was an exciting one. In the ensuing four years we would have many exciting experiences, topped off by our Senior Trip and Graduation. MISS BAGG MRS. ROOKE As the first step toward these ultimate goals, we chose Robert Rollo as our president; Nina Beck- with, vice president; Daryl Daus, secretary; and David Harrington, treasurer. MISS SEAMAN The most exciting event of that year was our first evening dance, Stairway to the Stars, ” a semi-formal dance featuring Ray Nelson and his orchestra. Other important events of that year were cake sales, the school picnic, and homework projects such as DAVID COPPERFIELD, and term papers. Our class was very active in many projects this year. Among them were Mixed Chorus (right). Girls' Gym Club (top). Boys' Gym Club (bottom), cake sales, and our dance, Stairway to the Stars, which, unfortunately, we have no pictures of. We enjoyed this year immensely and waited expectantly for the next. Here we are as gay young Our sophomore year topped the previous one in excitement and the scope of activities. This year, we began to work seriously to prepare for Washington. MRS. FRAZIER But plans are worthless without leaders, so we reelected Robert Rollo as our president; Daryl Daus, secretary; and David Harrington, treasurer. Dorothy Richardson be- came our new vice president. MR. CAFARO The two biggest activities proved to be our dance, a Sadie Haw- kins Dance which we held in November, and our sale of all-occasion cards. Both proved to be successful money-making activities. Other important activities that year were cake sales, the sale of senior dinner tickets, and our biology field trip to the Sterling-Win- throp Research Institute in Albany. MR. HEMMER Who is it, Lyn? We enjoyed this year a little more than last because of our extended activities. Though the work was harder than before, it seemed to be lessened as our trip came closer. During the year we made a good financial gain on the trip. This year definitely emerged as the most outstanding to date. It was by far the busiest of all four years in high school. The events which will stay with us the longest are our Junior Prom, VENICE IN THE SPRING; our Junior Play, THE REMARKABLE INCIDENT AT CARSON CORNERS; our class rings which we received just before Easter; and our other dance, a record hop featuring WPTR's Dave Sennet. Other activities which were important to us were the sale of magazines, cake sales, and the junior Christmas party. To lead us through these projects we re-elected Robert Rollo as our president; Samuel Discenza became our vice president; Dorothy Richard- son, corresponding secretary; Billie Hall, recording secretary; and Toby Gilman, treasurer. It concerns the events of a trial held in Carson Comers High School with the high school students acting as judge, defense attorney, prosecuting attorney, and witnesses. The parents act as the jury. The person on trial is Mr. Kovalesky, an old Polish janitor at the high school, who is accused of the premeditated murder of Bill McGinnis. Before the trial has ended, the people of Carson Corners have learned lessons which will never escape them. Mr. Kovalesky and the other people of Car- son Corners are found guilty of Bob’s death and they are all sentenced to a lifetime of remembering that they are responsible for a young boy’s death. VENICE IN THE SPRING The evening of May 9, 1958 was the eventful evening of our Junior Prom. The whole evening was beautiful as the couples danced in a setting of Venice to the music of Chris Discenza and his orchestra. Everyone wondered who the new king and queen would be. At last the big moment arrived. The Grand March began and ended. Then the king and queen’s court came down two by two. The last couple to arrive was our new king and queen, Gary George and Judy Funicelle. As our new king and queen arrived on stage, they were greeted by last year’s royalty, Peter Accardi and Sallie Giffen. They were followed by the crown- bearers, Denise Wadach and Xxxxxx Champagne. Judy and Gary were then crowned queen and king by Sallie and Peter, and after pictures were taken, they were joined by their court to enjoy the next dance together. CANALE ™ U-l WggBSSt. ■ tt In our last year at Queensbury High School, we devoted our activities almost entirely to earning money to finance our trip to Washington. We were quite successful in that we had the desired amount before Christmas. The projects which made possible such financial success were our dance, WASHINGTON OR BUST; a record hop held in September; our sales of candy at basketball and at soccer games, a first for Q.H.S. seniors; selling refresh- ments at adult education classes; and a food .sale held at Richardson’s Store. The seniors most responsible for co-ordinating these projects were Linda Gray, Judy Funicelle, Connie Jones, Hilda Dingmon, and Toby Gilman, whom we voted to be our president, vice president, corresponding secretary, recording m secretary, and treasurer, respectively.
