x In token of the appreciation for Mr. Ralph Downs's sincere interest in our school and its students, we dedi- cate the 1957 Treasure Chest. Mr. Downs was graduated from Bethany Peniel College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He has been a member of the Putnam City teaching staff for the past seven years. In Mr. Downs's schedule he teaches journalism and bookkeeping. He is sponsor of the Pirate Log, our school paper, which has improved greatly under his direction. The new Pirate Log offers subscriptions and advertising to merchants and many new features which have appealed to the student body. In 1955 Mr. Downs accepted the position of school counselor. He willingly devotes three hours each day aiding our students in the proper choice of colleges and professions and in any problems they might have concerning education. By giving interest, personality, and aptitude tests, he has greatly benefited all the high school students. As we dedicate the 1957 Treasure Chest, we hope Mr. Downs will become aware of the fact that we, as students of Putnam City, hold him in highest esteem. ....3-

We are citizens of a city, though you won't find it on any map or globe. To us it is very real, but most peo- ple simply call it Putnam City High School. Some live here longer than others, but in three years we all leave. Yet a small part of each student remainsg backstage at the All-School Play, on the football field when we made the winning touchdown, or by the locker with our carved names. In our city, we have a govemment, the teachers and the Student Council, and a population, the classes with their many personalities. Still the real city is the individual student. Without him there would be no city, no Putnam City. A big part of a city is its social life. Ours keep us busy with clubs, sports, plays, and numerous assem- blies. The main business is, of course, study. The 8:30 to 3:30 time clock includes quite a lot of overtime. Like any city, we have out dreams, our hopes, out plans for the future. Some of us desire a college educa- tion, othets want to conquer the business world. Most of us will just be average people. with a family and a home. The seniors have a special feeling about the city. For years it has been their life, a second home. Now they must leave it. With them go many memories ..... the last Spring Formal, the Senior Assembly, and finally graduation. As they walk under the rose-covered arches, the city fades from view. But wherever We go and whatever we do, our city, Putnam City, will never disappear. It is timeless.
