ROTC Rangers 23 i “Russians” in Attica Ranger camp teaches tactics training ganizations for the students involved in the Armed Forces. These programs are open to everyone, but the majority of the members are in a division of ROTC. One organization in particular is the Army ROTC Rangers. The U.S. Ranger Batallion is a unique unit of the Army that is readily deployable. Fort Lewis. Washington, and Fort Stewart. Georgia, house the two advanced ranger camps. The Purdue University Ranger program worked on a much smaller scale than the U.S. Army Rangers. In March. Army ROTC rangers engaged in simulated combat at Mudlavia Springs near Attica. Indiana. “The camp was one exercise in a series of warm-ups for those attending the advanced camp at Fort Lewis,” said Sergeant First Class Robert LaFond. drill leader. The twenty-one participants were divided into two squads, the United States and the Soviet Union. Of the thirteen Americans, four lived; only two of the eight Russians managed to escape alive. This drill was part of the MOUNT training. The combat was centered around an old abandoned motel. focusing on MOUNT training. Military Operations on Urbanized Terrain, and combat near cities and buildings. Emphasis was also placed on assault, raid, and ambush techniques. Holding the camp in Attica proved to be good location for training in these areas. Another Ranger camp was held in Attica in October. The students that participated flew in helicopters for a more realistic perspective of a combat situation. The ROTC program offers many organizations for students at Purdue in addition to the Rangers. Some of the organizations are Drill Team. Rifle Pistol Team. Association of the United States Army and Pershing Rifles.
