Are left over chicken strips getting you down? Tired of soggy ice cream sandwiches? The Greater Lafayette area offers many alternatives to campus meals. Whether it’s a light snack or a five course meal, ethnic or American, sweet or salty, one’s palate can be satisfied. Within walking distance. a Sunday night meal, midnight snack, or a place for a dinner date can be found. In the residence halls, fraternities. sororities, and cooperatives, at least one weekend dinner is not served. How do most students with or without cars remedy this? Yes. with deliveries! Not only do approximately thirteen pizza parlors around campus deliver, but also Kentucky Fried Chicken, Chicago Subs, and Hardee’s. If ethnic food is desired, though, it’s only a short walk to Chauncey Hill Mall. At Chauncey there’s the ever famous Taco Bell for the Mexican mood, Garcia’s for Italian food. The Parthenon for Greek cuisine, and if Chinese is the want, the newly opened Egg Roll Express is happy to provide. Let’s not forget, though, the All-American McDonalds, located just east of Chauncey Hill. What do most students do when midnight rolls around, the study blues set in, and the growling stomach is louder than the stereo? They either run down the stairs with $1.25 in hand and flag down the nearest Noble Roman’s Pizza truck to gorge on breadsticks, or make an ice cream run. Penguin and The Country’s Best Yogurt not only offer cool, frozen treats with a slew of items that can be mixed in. but also offer a break from campus and the pressures of studying. It’s 2:30 a.m. on a Saturday night, the parties are dwindling. and the dazed look has set in. Then, all of the sudden. the urge to chow down takes over. This craving can be satisfied by a number of eating places on campus. Often, a mad dash is made for Triple XXX, otherwise know as Tri-Chi. for the Duane Purvis All-American, a Bar- ney Burger, or a Black and Gold Sundae. Hardee’s and Arby’s are also frequented at ail hours of the weekend nights to relieve the midnight munchies. For special dates, options range from an informal pizza at Garcia’s to a dressier dinner of lobster and steak at Mountain Jack's. Chi Chi’s is also a popular place for couples to go on dates. Of course, those who have access to a car have a wider selection of restaurants. All in all, Lafayette and West Lafayette provide students with quite a variety of places to eat. Whether a meal or a snack is wanted, surely it can be found on or near campus. — Stephanie Grubb P. Sicgfrxxl Jim Button and Bob Gassel enjoy a burger and a Coke at Triple XXX. Eating at Triple XXX has become a tradition for Purdue students. 16 Eating Places

Not all work for a good cause PAAMS informs and educates students while having fun Double vision ... loss of balance ... an unsteady walk weakness in the arms or legs. The cause is unknown. but the verdict is certain — Multiple Sclerosis. Although approximately one-third of the people suffering from M.S. become seriously handicapped, few people actually die from it. This was only part of the information that the Purdue Association Against Multiple Sclerosis (PAAMS) spread across campus last winter. Informing the students about M.S. was one of the goals that PAAMS had set. By the end of the event, which lasted from February until the end of March, they had more than reached their goal through the distribution of more than 8.000 flyers and 500 buttons. Bill McLaughlin, PAAMS vice-president, felt that the time spent was worthwhile because of the recent publicity about M.S. “We reached a more important goal than raising $50,000. We promoted the education awareness of what M.S. is. It is estimated that we reached at least 35,000 people.” PAAMS was organized after the university was contacted at the beginning of January by MTV the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. MTV was spearheading a fight against M.S. and chal- lenging college campuses to join the fight. As an incentive, MTV offered a prize to the university that raised the most money. The prize was a free rock concert on the winning campus as a reward for their efforts. On our campus, not only were flyers passed out and buttons sold, but there were several major events held. PAAMS sponsored a Rock-A-Like contest and an allcampus Pig Roast Battle of the Bands. The Rock-A-Like was held at Nick's featuring five finalists who got there on a preliminary round of judging using a monetary voting system. “The event was very much a success. McLaughlin said. “We had very impressive acts; not a cheap act showed up. Purdue really pulled through for us.” First prize in the contest was taken by David Waite, who won with his impersonation of Ted Nugent. Second place was awarded to Mary Olsen as rock star Madonna and Beth Cunningham took third place as Vanity. The Pig Roast was held on March 22nd at the Armory along with a Battle of the Bands. Five bands from the Purdue area competed in the contest and Tom Christie, a local disc jockey, judged. Trisha Clark was co-chair- C Webber person for Battle of the Bands, an event which raised $1,500. According to Clark, five pigs were roasted and the rest of the food was donated by several sororities and fraternities. Other smaller events included a cup sale that allowed students special prices at local bars, an auction, a bottle drive, and much more. Purdue raised $10,000 and placed third in the overall contest. The Boilers were topped by Notre Dame who raised $23,000 and was awarded a free MTV Tommy Shaw concert for their efforts and also by Marquette with $22,000. “Although we were disappointed that we didn’t reach our monetary goal, we were very, very satisfied with the experience, stated Pepper Martin. “We learned a lot about M.S., showed how much we care, and helped to educate the students at Purdue. It was great!” —Kara Harman Enjoying the special dnnk prices at Pete’s. Richard Barr takes advantage of the cups he purchased from PAAMS. ••Pigging” out at the Pig Roast held at the Armory.
