boys varsity basketball Center: Tommy Mabe, Captain. Left to right: Doug Malone, Rodney Runyon, Ralph Duncan, Curtis Meredith, Doug Farmer, Jack Duncan, Bob Lynch, Jack Via, Bill Woods. This year ' s product of the ORIOLE cage team had a slow start, but showed promise of a good team next year by ending up with an average record. They were endowed with only four lettermen: Captain Tommy Mabe, Doug Malone, Doug Farmer, and Bill Woods. Jack Duncan was also back. Next year, there will be ten returning lettermen. With a fairly green team, Jack Miller turned out a group of well-coached boys. These boys showed the fight, determination, and the sports- manship that we all should have. They showed that they could be good losers as well as good winners. Most of the ORIOLES ' losses were w! thin seven points and the outcome of the games were never decided until the final minutes ot play. 1951-1952 SCHEDULE We They January 4 Pearisburg 63 64 January 8 Wytheville . . . . 57 41 January 1 1 Blacksburg 54 52 January 18 Fries 58 68 January 19 Fieldale 49 52 January 25 Radford 46 69 January 26 Martinsville 55 61 January 29 Narrows ... 53 55 January 31 Blacksburg 40 43 February 1 Christiansburg 41 46 February 5 Fieldale 48 66 February 12 Narrows . . . . 51 53 February 15 Christiansburg . . . . . 53 52 February 19 Wytheville ...... 62 40 February 21 Radford 45 52 February 22 Pearisburg 74 54 February 26 Fries 55 61 sixty-two L
