We seek to honor Mrs. Harry Hall as the founder of the Oriole in 1921 and to pay tribute to the wisdom and foresight she exercised in such a contribution to our school and community. Feeling incapable of setting forth in words an expre ssion which would be fitting and appropriate, we call upon the words of Emerson, The reward of a thing well done, is to have done it. " MRS. HARRY HALL ■ ■ ■ EALIZING the trials which beset those in the past who undertook the publication of our yearbook, The Oriole, and in appreciation of their efforts which played no small part in its success through the thirty years, we, the 1951 Staff, have endeavored in a small way to portray in picture through the forth coming pages some of the history of this traditional P. H. S. publication. Without rhyme or rhythm do we make this portrayal and attempt through reproduction to illustrate to a certain extent the cover designs and page layouts of past Orioles so that comparisons may be made of the older books with those of more modern days. We seek to bring to the attention of our readers that during the past decade the Oriole has won outstanding acclaim in competition with other schools in the state of Virginia. In the years 1941, ' 42, ' 45, and ' 48 our yearbook won top honors while ' 43, ' 44, ' 46, and 49 received second place honors. When the history of our times is seen in retrospect may our posterity evaluate the 1951 Oriole in its depicting those phases of student life ' which develop honesty, co-operation, re- sponsibility, integrity, good sportsmanship, and Pulaski High School as emblematic representa- tion of all those qualities which are becoming to us as students. five

MISS MAYME KATHERINE McCOY Editorial Sponsor for the past four years m ■ ■ 2 HE VALUE of little things which people do is often overlooked. In review- ing the span of thirty years we are reminded of those significant persons who have contributed their guidance, knowledge, and time but who have not received creditable acknowledgment for their endeavors in compiling a yearbook. These per- sons we call sponsors. We, the 1951 Oriole Staff, seek to bring into reality the high aspirations and ideals of all the sponsors of the past by dedicating our yearbook to Miss Mayme Katherine McCoy and to Mr. Foy Aust, who we feel are representative of all the gualities of foregoing sponsors. MR. FOY AUST Business Sponsor for the past twelve years A Christian gentleman, fair-minded, energetic, and always there when we need sound advice and during his fourteen years at Pulaski High School he has endeared himself to the students and other Pulaskians through his many fine qualities. His unfailing judgment has been a constant guide to those who have worked with him. His sense of humor is unexcelled. He retrieved the things we lost.
