HE Naiional Junior Honor Socieiy is an organizalion for The freshmen and
sophomores who have a "B" average and who are ourslanding in school
ciiizenship, leadership, service and characrer. This organizaiion, formerly The
Sophres, was organized in January l944.
Among The aclivilies of The club ihis year was an arf exhibil which rhe organiza-
iion secured for The school. This exhibil consisred of T50 pieces of line ar'r and was
enjoyed boih by 'rhe school and The public.

HE Nafional l-lonor Sociefy began ifs fhird year in P.l-l.S. as a senior club. The mem-
ff bers were chosen nof only for fheir grades and offices held in fhe various school
clubs, buf also for fheir characfer and leadership abilify.
The officers were: Jean Larson, presidenf: Peggy Wirf, viceepresidenfg Annie Grace Blaclc,
secrefaryi and Jimmy Webb, freasurer. The remaining five members assisfed fhe officers in
all fheir unclerfalaings. The group was capably sponsored by Mrs. Nancy Dobyns.
The club sfarfed off wifh many new ideas and worfhwhile plans for fhe school year. ln fhe
firsf semesfer if sponsored a fardy campaign befween fhe seniors and iuniors againsf fhe fresh-
men and sophomores. The losers, fhe seniors and juniors, gave fhe winners a parfy in fhe gym
ln December fhe group confribufecl fwo Chrisfmas baslsefs for needy families in fown. The
group also sold school pencils and sponsored a boofh af fhe Spring Carnival.
The new members were selecfed from fhe iunior class af fhe close of fhe school year and
honored Them wifh a banguef af fhe Woman's Club.

The group gave a Thanksgiving baskel loia needy family of lhe lown. The group also had
a lhealer parly in November, bul lhe highlighf ol lhe monlh was The delighllul Kiddie Dance
held in The gym.
The club again sponsored The annual Slunf Day in March. Each ol lhe Tour classes pul on
a slunl, and a live dollar prize was given lo lhe winning class.
